Question on European Road Signs
Recently began playing ETS2 and am starting to become familiar with European road signs (I live in the US). Driving through Bulgaria I came across some signs that left me scratching my head. They point the direction to some city (Sliven and Burgas in the screenshot), but there are red lines through the city names. What does this mean? Sliven and Burgas are not in that direction? It makes me think that they painted the city names, then realized they made a mistake and crossed them out.

It means the roads in that direction are blocked, you can't drive there in the vanilla map.

They use this orange tape in real life when there are roadworks or detours.

That makes sense, thank you!

That leaves me wondering...how do they show it on signs in the us when a road is closed to city?

I play both, and I found this odd in ETS2 when I started as well.
In ATS - they don't cross out the signs. They all still show what would be down that road if you were able to take it. You just don't see the road being available on the map, and the road is blocked with the 'XXXXX's.

I wish they wouldn't cross them out (or cover them in plastic, as I think they do in Italy?) as it kind of interrupts the realism of the game. Oh well...

Here in the US, they do actually cover them with plastic or cover the one location with something (perhaps saying "closed") if the exit is not to be used. I think I've only seen this with new construction but occasionally an exit get shut down for an extended length of time.

I don't think it's common in the US to see highways completely closed. They are sometimes reduced to one lane, so temporary traffic lights are put up to allow one direction through, then the other (I've seen this done in ATS). Or sometimes orange "Detour" signs are put up that point traffic to an alternate route if a road is completely blocked.
