Keeping it interesting
After watching lots of YOUTUBE on ETS2, it seems like you can level up / earn money pretty quickly. How do you keep it interesting after you acquire a lot of money and driven the map a few times? Do you have personal limitations you use when you are doing career mode?

Thx

you can also implement a challenging economy in which you earn so little that any little error really hurts

With over 280h in game I haven't even seen 50% of the map yet, lol

I agree with the hard economy mod.....

However..... The issue with these mods is that not all tolls are altered to match the mod. Some tolls can only be adjusted by altering them in the map itself.

So instead of a reasonable $20 to run a section of toll road in italy, you get hit with $400 in toll charges and loose money on the load

I always thought it would be a good idea for SCS to implement a difficulty slider bar (which effect rate, fuel, tolls, etc)..... Maybe one of these days

A difficulty slider would be ideal .

Its takes a lot of time to see all of the map and use all of the roads...

I'm not only driving, but also enjoying mod truck(s), customizing them, modding a few things in traffic to my liking and creating paintjobs that I saw in real life, so I guess it will never become boring for me (I am over 1,000 hours already).

I have more than 800 hours driving time in the game and play completely vanilla. Yes, the economy is easy but if that bothers you then don't hire other drivers and, especially in the early period the game will be plenty tough enough using all of the default settings (ie. no disabling the speed limit, fines, fatigure simulation)

I try to keep things as realistic as possible (so no teleporting - I gained the achievement by fast travelling to the garage I was already parked at!? - or any use of the developer console at all) and even when doing jobs with a company supplied truck at the beginning of the game I took the next job from the same city as I'd delivered to for the previous job.

In terms of maintaining interest there are 75 achievements across all of the official map DLCs and these days I often make up my own, but I try to do all of them whilst on a job.

Having said all of that, those that fall in love with this game tend to enjoy the simple experience of driving from A to B - I find it relaxing, enabling me to clear my head of all the day-to-day stuff and just concentrate on navigating safely. YMMV obviously, but if you are unsure try the demo for a while (although I believe it is a rather old version) or buy the game whilst it is on sale for the price of an average visit to your favourite fast food emporium or coffee shop.

I like to play pro mods. That opens up a new ETS2
I usually just play it, when i need to relax a bit.

Otherwise install mods, like others said weather mods, texture mods, install traffic mods or choose different routes to your destination. This game isn't so much about exciting adventures and great stories, althought you can have both depending on how big of a fan you are when it comes to trucks and truck driving.

I still have a ton of Achievements to chase down.

Driven the map a few times? :D: lul
Take my word on it, it takes many many hours to explore every road :)

1) Just enjoy driving. If you're like me, I love traveling and looking at the landscape, both in real life and in ETS2. You can ignore the money and just enjoy the ride, take difficult cargo etc.

2) Building a big, well-running company. I enjoyed working towards the achievement to have 10 optimized garages, and also providing my drivers with owned trailers, find out which types are needed at which garage, and optimize on usage.

3) Map DLC. If the base map gets boring for you, get one. They deliver what the cover promises, if you want fjords, get Scandinavia, if you want Mediterranean, get Italy... Scenery, landscape, houses of each region really differ and driving there gives unique vibes.

4) Mods. They can add a ton of immersion.
There are must-have in my (and many others) opinion:

1) Buy a garage in every capital first

2) Only hire drivers for each garage that have names that would be in that country natively

3) Buy trucks based on a rule (IVECO for Italy, Renault for France (or French principalities), etc.)

3) Give your drivers trucks based on performance or rating (i.e., 300hp to begin with when they are crap, upgrade them to 400-500hp later, then give them max trucks later)

5) Buy trailers and stock them at each garage you own

6) Expand intelligently by looking at where the most profitable jobs are in terms of route, buy a garage there and stock it with drivers/trailers

Really, you can make the rules up yourself

Challenge yourself, perfect your reversing skills without using an external camera. Do some jobs without using the GPS. Drive around freely for a while and take a job from whichever town you come to next.

Roleplay, look at the traffic around you and imagine where they're going, where they came from, what is the purpose of their journey and why the H they are trying to run you off the road! Sometimes it just takes a little imagination.

I would set myself the goal to reach 100% roads seen. But with Promods that is nearly impossible xD.
Otherwise, what multiple users already said, just enjoy driving, if you play ETS2 for the money part you are in the wrong game imo. ETS2 is when u want to enjoy the driving and want to the landscape etc.
