Engine Sound ETS 2 Version 1.37 | Feedback
I agree with most of the people in here, that the distinctive sound of the engines has somehow been lost during transition from the old 1.36 version to the new 1.37 version. The Scania engine sounds a bit like it is either full throttle or nothing. There used to be this distinctive growl that built up over time and receeded when you eased your foot on the throttle. The retarder however seems to have been reduced to some kind of asthmatic wheeze. And here again the sound is either on/off. There doesn't seem to be a gradual decrease in noise when the revolutions are lower.

Now I learnt that giving feedback should be something that pleases the person / group that is recieving the feedback. So I will pack all my findings into the following paragraphs for what I found good and what I found bad.

The overall impression is 70% good. The thrumbing of the rain on the (tin) roof is quite pleasant and improves the overall efffect of the simulation. It sound realistic. Very good job here. Then the feature of being able to wind down the driver side and passenger side windows has an impact on the sounds and how they sound in the cabin. I even detected a gradual increase in certain effects depending on which level the window is. (But that might be just my imagination.) The reverbration of the sound waves when travelling through a tunnel and when passing under a bridge are pretty realsistic: Maybe a touch to hollow. The individual sound levels for each sound "area" are pretty overwhelming. I mean what belongs to "game sound" and when is something "ambient sound"? Where is the distinction made for each of these levels?

Maybe a little tool tip when you point your mouse over the description of an item in the configuration menu would be cool. And on some items it would be nice to have notches that give you an idea when mathing up slides or realistic percentages to go with the slide. I've always asked myself what is better. Left or right? (Especially in the Graphic settings).

I had difficulties with the sound and even after twidelling with my 5.1. surround sound settings and in-game settings I was unable to bring back the beating of the Scania engine like it was in 1.36. No increase in the level of the growl when the engine reaches different tourque levels at different revolutions. No decrease in the retarder sound. The engine and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ noises seem to be set to like: Throttle Open = Engine Noise; Throttle Closed = Engine Noise off. Same for the retarder.

However, I did notice that there is a very slight distinction in engine noise/sound, during the first 5% of the way on the acceleration pedal. During those 5% I can get the Scania to sound different. It's like the level of the sound is not matching the pedal distance on the accelarator.

This might be the issue for the retarder as well.

I hope you can find the issue with the engine sounds. But do please keep up the good work.

I'll hang in there and if all else fails I've still got my first save from 05.01.2013 which was version 0.9.x (or even 0.8.x) I can always revert back to that in case ;-)

Okay, some trucks, like say the DAF XF (that used to be my favourite because of the engine sound), don't sound as good as they used to. Others, Like the big Scania sound better than ever. And the world within the game sounds miles better. Miles. The "best developers ever" really are trying hard. The game i have now is much better than the one i paid for. Let's give them a break (and thank them in advance for fixing the sound of the DAF, so i can enjoy driving it again).

You can always go back to 1.36.

The Scania new generation Scania V8s in game don’t sound like the real thing. Some time ago I had ride in a Scania S580 V8 and it sounds great. In game however ... nope. That’s a no go. :steamsad:

Well, ETS2 alone has sold well over 6 million copies. Whether you assume everyone got it on sale for $4.99 like me and lots of others or everyone paid full price, they have made a pretty penny.

However, step one on a list of 100 steps is still step one. Doesn't matter how much money you throw at it.
In a course of 8 years it does not impress anyone.
Let's say they sold average at $8 - some on lowe, some on higher price. it makes $8*6 milion =
48 milions $ over 8 years... this makes 6 million $ a year... this makes 0.5 million $ a month... It's not impressive, as only salaries for 150 workers makes $3000* 150 = $450 000 - and, you still have to pay for equipment, travels, office... etc. It does not make huge amount of money.. Does it?

It's all in the mix. You have to adjust those sliders to get the right amount of environmental noise and effects, engine, brakes, tire noise, cabin sounds etc. Make it right for your audio system and your ears. It's a lot better than before, as I can do something about it. If I didn't like the sound on previous versions, I was stuck with it anyway.
SCS will continue to work on the actual sound samples and it'll probably get better in time, but the sound system itself is clearly an improvement over the last one.

The trucks sound very much like the real thing, except the very old models that came with release. Maybe consider trying good headphones or solid speakers with an amplifier. Small PC speakers with a subwoofer normally don't do the trick.

I also suspect you want your trucks to sound particularly badass while regulations actually disallow that and trucks are built with having noise reduction in mind.
They use real recordings and comparing it to some footage from the web, it's pretty close. Tire noise normally is so high at 80 that you can barely hear your engine, which however you set it, is still weird in the game.

Also, go complain in the actual SCS forum. There is huge disagreement and I bet you, no matter how it sounds, some folks will complain.
I agree with you. I've been driving trucks for 34 years now and in my opinion the sounds are pretty similar to the sound of most modern day trucks. With the Euro6 engines and auto gearboxes that companies are using these days trucks are much quieter now than they have been over the years. This doesn't apply to the horrible Scania V8 though which is a nasty, noisy, uncomfortable heap of.......

Truck Sounds
I must say truck sounds are very much disappointing. All brands sound the same, is there a mod that can improve the sound quality more especially on changing gears?

I know most people won't want to hear this but the answer to the sound problem is surround sound.
I have 7.1 speakers and headphones and I can turn off surround sound and it sounds terrible.
Most motherboards support 7.1 sound and all of them support usb which my headphones are.
The FMOD sound engine takes full advantage of surround sound.
So get some 7.1 speakers or headphones, you will be glad you did.

Yes, I'm using 5.1 Logitech speakers. And it still doesn't sound right. I did point out that the issue is a full throttle / no throttle kind of issue. Not a "everything is not so good" issue.

I migrated from 1.36 to 1.37 yesterday because ProMods 2.46 are released. All the sounds are great except the truck engine, retarder and motorbreak sound which was fantastic in 1.36 and I enjoyed it very much. Now it sounds strange as it is written above like on/off. I feel like flying in a glider when I release my accelator. I made a mistake when shifted the speed. I shifted from 6H to 3H and no sound... just the the RPM indicator went to red area. In 1.36 there was a sound explodion when you shifted wrong this way.

BTW can someone help me. No idea what mean the inerior sound settings when generating the ProMods file: Basic sound, Ineterior sound 2x, 4x...16x

Well I can confirm that the engine sounds improved with the minor fix that SCS introduced and stayed stable with the 1.37 update. The on/off impression was removed with these updates/upgrades.

The engine sound increased steadily again and the turbo whining and retartder grumble are back. Thanks to SCS for a great job in impoving on their new sound engine. :-)

I agree that the engine sounds with the last updates suck. So bad that I don't wan't to play the game anymore. I've been playing it with keyboad for years, and having fun, but with the latest so called "big sound update" most of the trucks started to sound like different brands of vacuum cleaners.

And I've yet to find some good sound mods. Ats vanilla trucks sounds much better, and with the mods and models that game becomes a pure joy.

I prefer to drive in european roads but this engine sounds in ets 2 are almost unbearable for me.

Also I don't know what they have changed with the driving position or the perspective but now its so bad imho, I'm tired of backing and lowering the seat each time, is there not a permanent setting option for that?

They kinda broke the game imo. Maybe I' should go back to 1.36 with promods and stop updating the game anymore..
