If you are using one of the 16 speed transmissions you will have to assign buttons to select high vs low range and high vs low splitter selection. Google can be your friend as "ZF 16 speed shift pattern " (Volvo 16 speed is the same) will give you nice diagrams etc.

Note that the "first gear" is always in the middle position (on the left there are crawler and reverse gears).
PS. Remember to assign buttons for range and splitter too. I have them setup on the +/- buttons so my left thumb can reach them easily.
Each H-pattern cycle has three gear slots (or four but that's usually on ATS side Eaton Fullers).
First cycle being (both range and split "off"): 1, 2 and 3. (or 1L, 2L and 3L as in LOW)
Second (range "on". split "off"): 1H, 2H and 3H (as in HIGH)
Third (range "off", split "on"): 4L, 5L and 6L
and the fourth (both "on"): 4H, 5H and 6H
EDIT: Do note, the actual gear order is not linear (as in cycle1>cycle2>cycle3>cycle4) but is between L and H ranges. Meaning pulling really really heavy loads you use the range selector a lot (1L > 1H > 2L > 2H...) For normal loads the opposite, you hardly touch it and skip gears a lot.
for a total of 12 gears.
The first pattern also has the reverse and optionally crawler gears aswell, as in RL and RH; CL and CH. Which slots are which depends on the truck and what gearbox you've put in it. You HAVE to match the setting in the controller menu or you'll get weird results when switching gears.
Another note is that the shifter for G29 is complete crap, but it works...
in scania simulator.
