Does trailer size matter?
Does having a bigger custom trailer mean more cargo?

I don't know of mods implement this, but in ATS the size of the trailers makes a difference, and I could see this game working the same thing way

Yes. The larger your trailer, the more cargo you can carry.

And generally the more money you get paid. Same goes for freight jobs. If you pick a job and it has a 'gear' icon in the corner, cycle through available trailers and you may get a tandem etc. The basic price will go up or if you pick a refrigerated trailer over a curtain; priority job and so forth. Mess about and see
