The highest paying jobs, by price per km, will nearly always be Freight Market jobs however, because those will likely be urgent, which is not a thing with the online jobs (because they use real world time rather than game world time). However, that metric is not the only one by which to judge the jobs (and beware of jobs that involve a lot of sitting on a ferry, because those look good by that measure but involve a lot of time during which you're not generating XP whilst the in game clock is ticking) - you might want to haul particular cargoes, or from or to particular depots or cities rather than purely worrying about the cash.
