Scania vs Volvo
As a new driver I have only partial access to the various models of trucks and parts, and as such haven't really had a chance to try out much aside from my trusty starter Volvo FH16 Classic. I've noticed that Volvo is the best manufacturer in terms of making available powerful 700hp engines to lower level players (at level 12 I just put one in mine, along with a mid-lift chassis that I'm dying to try out), yet the Scania seems to be one of the more popular, if not the most popular truck choices out there, despite the fact that they offer no engines of that horse power or anywhere near it until level 20. All of the mid range trucks from the Scania brand are very expensive and have relatively small motors of the 400-500hp range, so at first glance without having driven them they don't look like they're as capable as the Volvo offerings.

Having not had a chance to experiment with one yet for myself, can anyone explain to me why I would "upgrade" to a truck with a much smaller motor? Or rather, what advantages does Scania offer, if any?

Some of the Scania engines are V8, and I'm sure that's why some players better like Scania than Volvo. :)

In my opinion, Scania and Volvo are equally good in terms of engine power.

But I prefer to drive the Volvo because of the side mirrors.
- Scania's side mirror block the more visibility to the sides than Volvo's when I have to see to the sides at intersections

It has nothing to do with levels. Most users prefer Scania just because it is Scania. Most users also have reached a level (or cheated to a level) far above 20, have more money than they need and don't care anymore which part was originally available at which level.

To add my two cents, I switched from Volvo to Scania due to the Scania having more customisation options.

Great answers everyone, thanks. In ATS I noticed that I tended to choose the truck that gave me the best feeling from the cab, both in terms of visibility as well as instrumentation since I play with the route guidance element of the HUD hidden, so I imagine it'll be the same here, too. LostBoy, you just mentioned something I've been really loving so far, over and above ATS--the sheer amount of truck customization options in this game are mind blowing. If the Scania tops that list I'll definitely be checking it out.

I used to prefer the Volvo. Then the Scania R/S was added. I chose look and functionality over power. The Volvo is one of the uglier trucks in ETS2.

From the exterior or in the cab? I have to admit that most of the truck brands all look the same to me as one another from the outside prior to tricking them out

Stock Scania R looks miles better than the Volvo no matter how much customization you add to it. The interior also appears worse to me in the Volvo with not enough relevant information on the dashboard. If the models were updated or the new models were added to the game, my opinion may change.

This
The biggest difference between SCS ETS2 trucks is the ability to see past the mirrors and the quality (available info) of the digital dash display.

What a crappy test.
Scania driver stole in start many times.
Scania used 2016 transmissions, Volvo olders.
Volvo driver used adaptive power/normal mode auto transmission and it used 1500-2000rpm. Scania driver didn't used adaptive auto transmission and it allowed engine used 1000-1500rpm. SCS has limited Volvo engines to 2000rpm max and because SCS physics didn't change to 6th gear with gargo so Scania get by.

This only showed differencies how much SCS still got to work how game uses truck & driver settings.
