There are still some little buggy issues with the DLC that need to be worked out.
I know what you mean. It was cool seeing the escorts drive in the middle of the road when there was oncoming traffic. It gave me a sense of "This guy really watches out for me".
Sadly, he didn't watch out for himself lol.

Another thing beside the rear escort vehicle regularly getting shanked is the trailers (the wide load ones) sometimes get damaged without any reason. I already drive in the middle of the 2 lane road so I won't hit the fence then suddenly I get a message "1% damage". It's like an insect hit the trailer and I get fined for it lol.
Don't let the issues bring you to avoid the Special Transports. I don't like doing them constantly, but they're a fun departure from the day-to-day and I do recommend them. The autosaves have, so far, always eased my pain.
Maybe the issues persist because it's a more fundamental problem with the AI? But, honestly, I can't even see the rear escort. Just turn off collisions on it. LOL. :P
"Shanked". LOL.
I have to admit, I sometimes am a bit perplexed by damage notices on Special Transports. I don't know if there's a damage bug (insects?), but I can't always figure out where the damage came from. It seems to me that some objects that don't seem to damage regular trailers can cause light damage to Special Transports (maybe so you don't just ignore all the road signs and knock them down?). Not sure.
