At least a controller, but The game is best played with a wheel.

dont have a controller and im not going to spend what, $80 for a single game lmao, I use keyboard and mouse for all my games, no point getting a controller just for this one.

Obviously, controllers, joysticks, wheels, etc all work with a lot of games, not just ETS2.
If you were to invest in one, you'd do it for all the games they work for.

Could get a cheap controller for 10 euros and try it out, see how you like it vs keyboard and mouse.
Personally, I liked the analogue input from the joysticks on the controller so much more than keyboard and mouse can give, I ended up investing in a good controller with better working joysticks and precision on them.
Ironically a few days later(which was a few days ago) I ran into an ad for a G25 that was not asking an incredibly inflated price, so I nabbed that. :)
I was already working on an Arduino based device to hook up just the pedals of my old MOMO wheel for even more control options (without the wheel), I'm still gonna finish that one. Now it'll work with the G25 pedals and shifter. For the times I want those and the controller and not have the big wheel on my desk.
That said, the G25 wheel's enclosure is a lot smaller than the MOMO one so it is easier to store nearby. :)

I use mouse for steering, but best for you would be to try both methods yourself. You can change the steering method anytime. Good luck! :steamhappy:

nah, just for 25 you can get one, it really is a lot more fun and it works in other driving games too.

Personally I tried playing with a keyboard and mouse control scheme but the game feels much better with at least an XBox 360 controller which I'm using currently. Although I do use it for quite a fair amount of different games than just ETS2 or ATS.

It's very playable with keyboard if you increase the steering sensitivity.

i have had the game for 1 1/2 years now and right from the start i used mouse & keyboard, in my opinion the best option

i use the keyboard, i don't have anywhere to put the pedals for my current steering wheel.
it isn't that hard with the keyboard, but then again i won sim races decade ago with the keyboard against good racers with their wheels, so it matters little to me.

a keyboard, gamepad or steering wheel are your only realistic options, if the steering wheel has enough buttons, the better and it also works with the gamepad as well. you can assign everything you need to the controller with enough buttons, i would suggest for the keyboard or gamepad to try find a way of slowing down the controller responses by making it take longer to turn when you press left or right, in order to eliminate the instant turn and erraticness so other players can go besides you and past without fear of getting caught in a crash.

After 200 hours in kbm i switched to mouse damn its whole different. Mouse can take turns at high speed compared to kbm ,only down thing is there is no auto center with mouse unlike kbm, so need to spend a lot of time to get used to it.
