Personally, I like the way the trucks handle with the trailer better than without but yeah, explore. That’s why all the hard work went into the game.
AGREED!!!!!!
You'll have to find jobs in the freight market and go fetch the trialer with your own tractor/cab before they'll attach. :)
So you get to freeroam as much as you want, but your truck does need servicing. If you hire AI drivers, which you'll have to buy a truck for as well, they make you money, but they also cost money. If they cannot find jobs they still get a loan off of your paycheck. :>
Freeroaming is often a good choice to explore nearby towns to unlock them in the freight market as a starting location for jobs, and to discover the question marks. (Which are truck dealers and recruitment agencies that unlock AI drivers to hire from a randomised pool.)
It's just that, until you get around 100-125k for your first truck, you'll have to do quick jobs with someone else's truck, and always having a trailer to deliver somewhere.
Sometimes you can deviate from your route to explore a nearby town as well, but it is dependant on what the deadline for the job is and how much time you'll need to drive there.
There's mods that give you cheats or a head start or such, browse the workshop! :)
Look on the workshop, lots of mods where all you have to do is one job to be fully loaded with XP and credits.
