Why Are My Photo/Image-Based Skins Pixelated?
Hi I am making my own skins based around my record collection and have downloaded some images of the album art and arranged them in a grid pattern via Picasa and saved as a JPG file. I then import that and layer it on top of one of the truck templates (Volvo ones mostly) and save as a DDS file and then import that into ETS2 Studio and export as a SCS file to use as a mod in the game.

The trouble is when I apply the skin to the truck at the garage, it always looks pixelated. This doesn't happen if it's just a plain paint job I have made or a simple text graphic but with photos or images, it always looks pixelated.

Please can someone tell me why this is or how to fix it?

Thanks.

Maybe the size of your files is too small? I'm usually working with an image width of 4096 pixels for my paintjobs.
Do you have a screenshot of your problem?

Actually I think it's fixed now. I added more photos to the grid and I think because there are more of them, they are not as stretched out which is what was causing the issue.

But for some reason when I choose painted mirrors and door handles, they are just white and not painted like the rest of the skin. I've had that issues before but I don't know why.

That's because these parts are using the base colour from their paintjob SII file, as far as I know.

Is there a way to change that? I know you can change the base colour in ETS2 Studio but I'm not sure that would help in this instance.

AFAIK base colour is no longer used. Unless some of the really old models weren't updated, most now use the bottom left corner of the template. It's litterally a 1px square in the corner.

I am only painting Vad&k's DAF, it has a template that includes the mirrors. But I don't know about the original SCS trucks.
