8x4 vs. 6x4
I was looking at the new 8x4 Scania chassis and I was wondering what was the purpose of a 8x4 chassis compared to 6x4.

Here are the 2 versions of the S series, with the same exact loadout:

8x4 performs slightly better when it comes to heavy cargo and uneven terrain but 6x4 already does well enough in my book and on top of it has better performances with regular cargo and overall maneuverability.

So what is the role of the 8x4 chassis? Why would a company go for these instead of 6x4?

It has more wheel base, more axles to spread the load, easier to manuever, and many other advantages over the 6x4.

Regarding maneuvaribility that's not what the truck analysis says. How does spreading the load help?

8×4 chassis reduces the axle load, but that only matters in real life, not in the game.

8x4 has wider turning circle

8x4 has a steerable midlift that may give it a slight edge in that regard. However with the midlift up, it is effectively a 6x4 with a longer wheelbase, so maneuverability would be less.

and 8x4 can haul special transport dlc the other one isn't really a good choice for it

So it seems to be a case where the chassis has a purpose IRL but is rather pointless in-game. Thanks for the answers!

I feel like the 8x4 ingame keeps the track better at speed on uneven roads, regardless of trailer or weight. Steering is more accurate. (not sure in english; in german it means "die Spur halten").

I use only 6x4. First it gets the power (and brakes) to the ground, while still good maneuverability. Second its suitable for any load and distance and still keeps track better than a 4x2.

Not sure about this, but irl 8x4 you need for loads 50t+? Anyone knows?

Depends on country/laws. There are varying maximum axle loads for different types of roads (in different countries).

Yes, nothing is easy. :)

Just found the real Scania configurator:
http://www.scania.com/global/en/home/products-and-services/configurator-portal.html

A 6x4 technically can carry a max of 42t: 16t per rear axle. 10t front. Truck itself included.

So I do not flat roll the street bits "0" to "1" taking 70t with a 6x4. :)

Take a look at this for some details ;)
go to page 4 for country specific rules and even more details =P

It's not too important in the game, but if you want to keep things as close to the real deal as possible (sth I like to do) you might take a closer look at it...

Cool, thanks.

I love Tata!
In India at least. :)

That would be nice if the game had weigh stations like ATS.

Take a look on YouTube.... 8x4 used for moving the real heavy stuff...200 t transformers etc.... I also see they are used for recovery vehicles, hauling trucks out of ditches.... just watched one where a 60t truck tried to cross a 4t bridge and ended up in the river. .
But yeah, I use 6x4 as I like how it can do everything, even Special Transport

There are not much weight stations around europe, that is why they are not included in ETS (at least in my country I haven't seen any). There are just mobile control stations, that might check trucks on parkings, smaller roads etc.
