ETS2 doesn't start (Ubuntu Linux 16.04) *solved*
Hi,
I just bought an downloaded ETS2. When launching the game, nothing happens at all. No HDD activity, nothing on the screen.

I already tried to run ETS2 in safe mode and with -32bit flag. No difference. As suggested in this forum I also verified the installation and finally reinstalled the game. Results are the same.

I don't know where to find the logs for the game. If someone can point me to that direction, it would be a great help to start.

My system:
Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit
Nvidia Geforce GT 555M
8GB RAM
Intel Core i7-2630QM (Quadcore)

Thanks and Cheers,

Hauke

Running Linux Mint 18 (Ubuntu 16.04 based). ETS2 loading and working perfectly and using an XB0x360 wired controller.

The file you are looking for is the game.log.txt file. It is located in the ETS2 folder in my documents on a windows system - i dunno how it works on Linux. However just do a search for that file and open it with a text editor of your choice and look for warnings and errors.

I don't have that folder. I see the folders of my other steam games there but the folder you mentioned is not there.

When trying to run ETS2 from the command line I get:

error while loading shared libraries: libsteam_api.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

The file mentioned library is in the same folder.

I found it. Copying libsteam_api.so to /usr/lib solved it for me:

cd ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Euro Truck Simulator 2/bin/linux_x64 sudo cp libsteam_api.so /usr/lib

I ran into this issue as well and managed to get the game running by copying libsteam_api.so into my system libraries, but I wonder why this is happening. I don't understand why this workaround is needed. The library is right there next to the binary and should load just fine without having to be copied into the shared system libraries. Maybe there's a clue when I run the game with:
LD_PRELOAD='~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Euro Truck Simulator 2/bin/linux_x64/libsteam_api.so' ./eurotrucks2

Which yields the following output:

ERROR: ld.so: object '~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Euro' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored. ERROR: ld.so: object 'Truck' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored. ERROR: ld.so: object 'Simulator' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored. ERROR: ld.so: object '2/bin/linux_x64/libsteam_api.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored. ./eurotrucks2: error while loading shared libraries: libsteam_api.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Note how the path in the error message cuts off just after 'Euro'. There is a space there, which should not be a problem, but for some reason seems to be.

Any game-devs care to chime in on this?

Edit: This is on Debian Sid aka. unstable.
