Medicine gives best income pr km, and then luxery boat (and if you have the DLC for that: yacth and contractor machinery and helicopter).
Medicine freight mostly start from an airport, so for that go for a garage near an airport.
Boat and yacth ofen are from harbour to harbour. - but notice that your drivers will love take the ferry if you choose a ferry harbour to you garage.

I have bought most of Italy garages, where luxury boat companies are located. Also you have to improve the skills of your drivers accordingly, if you want to earn lots of money per transportations. Medicines are rare but high-price cargos as @briannospam mentioned above.

Build two garages as far from each other as possible. Get at least 4 drivers. Let them first develop fully long driving skill. Now switch trucks to ones from opposite garage. Earn profit fast.
After having 50 drivers - it doesn't really matters where the garages are located. The cash is flowing stupid fast.

As @Mehoo006 mentioned, this does work well, I have two garages, one in Istanbul and one Aberdeen, then I did travel between them. It was an early money making method, I don’t really do that anymore other than in the beginning, if I feel like ”cheating”. But Oslo seems good location for a lot of jobs, same as Stockholm and Helsinki - in fact my first garage was Dusseldorf, I think, which is pretty much in the middle of the continental Europe area (of the available ones, that is). I don’t have France nor Italy DLCs yet, but am planning on getting them soon.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Just start doing Quick Jobs all around the map until you can hire a few drivers. Soon you will have more money than you know what to do with.

I agree, but I never hire drivers anymore just because the income is getting way to high very early in the game.

for me its buy garages in every city. upgrade them to large for the cheaper fuel. then hire drivers for the garages in the capital cities of each country.

This is still not an economy simulation. It simply doesn't matter, where your hundreds of garages are located. You'll have way more money than you ever can spend in this _arcade_ game. More sooner than later.

You have to consider, that it's not just cheap, but locally available. And if the economy allows it, then why not?

Easy. You buy at the edges of the map. For standard map these are: Scotland, Portugal, Turkey and Finland. For the ProMods experience -> Island, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Norway-zone around Kirkines. In either case you place your HQ in the midle of all these.
