How can I increase my truck's acceleration? (Scania S)
probably been asked before
Primary questions:
1. 6x4 or 4x2?
2a. Is higher gear count better?
2b. Are low final gear and differential ratios better, or should i focus on higher first gear?
3. Does the engine's horsepower have anything to do with it?

I've gone to a lot of forums and they give pretty different and confusing answers and i just wanna tackle this question once and for all.

Please read:
No, telling me that this isn't the point of ETS2 won't really help. I get that this is a simulator.
I just want to get this off my mind and reduce my chances of getting violently overtaken in MP, which i spend most of my time on. If you're just going to leave a comment to tell me "this isn't the game you're looking for", might as well not reply and just move on to the next discussion.

What? This game not Truck F1 race.

If you want to drive as fast as possible, get a game like Beam.ng. ETS2 is a simulator. You play it, 'cause you want to "experience" being a trucker on a long road, just you and your truck.
Name your truck like you want, paint it, modify it to your liking and sooner or later you feel "home".

1. shouldn't matter too much but 6x4 might give better traction while increasing weight
2. for top speed only the highest gear's transmission ratio is relevant but don't forget to multiply with the differential ratio since that can vary between different gearboxes -> best choice for Scania S is GRSO 905 while best acceleration at lower speeds might require the 6 speed transmission
3. more power will never hurt top speed while improving acceleration but weaker engines might still reach the rev limiter (at least downhill ;-)
4. powered wheels should have as much diameter as possible for maximum speed at given rpm
-> Michelin 315/80

Thank you, will try out your suggestions.

Its hes game, he paid for it, so he can play it anyway he likes, just answer hes question, dont tell him how to play.

BTW, what about hilly areas like Calais - Duisburg (euro traffic simulator) Should I use transmissions with higher gear count or lower gear count?

Correct. Thank you ohn. I just want to make faster deliveries and avoid being lane-cut in multiplayer.

Hooly crap the GA867 is the perfect transmission for me, thanks 8eist for recommending a 6 speed.

drive manual and shift at the right time

The rule of thumb:
a) the higher gear ratios and axle ratios + the smaller wheels = faster acceleration;
b) the lower gear ratios and axle ratios + the bigger wheels = higher top speed;
c) shift manually or change automatic transmission to power mode (but you will get crazy in the cities as anytime you push or release acceleration button the gear is changed);
