Standalone gear box?
Hi guys, my question is fairly simple, I wanted to know if I can use, for example, the logitech gear box standalone? like, can I use it with another wheel that isn't the logitech one?

I was thinking about buying a wheel, but the logitech one is way over my budget, but I wanted a gear box as well.. so I wanted to know if it is possible to use the gear box with another wheel, or if not, if there's any other gear box that I can use?

well the logitech one plugs into the logitech wheel so you can use that standalone . there are some stand alone shifters yes , they detect as a separate device so it should work just fine .as long as the shifter doesnt plug into the corresponding wheel you should be golden .

P.S I would look in my local market and on ebay n whatnot for a used wheel with everything . A lot of ppl with more money than brains buy them , never use them more than 1 or 3 times and they sit in a box in a closet until they decide to sell it ..if you look hard enough you may find yourself a great deal . I do know the logitech goes on sale All the time for half price . cpl weeks back they were on for 239$ at Best buy if not mistaken . IF you want a good one and be happy then you need to spend the money .. thats just how it is . I use a browser app called Honey , i select things i want to buy when price drops and when it does it will tell me . it will also give cupons etc etc so there are way to get what you want for a great price if you be patient , save your money and jump on the deal . cheers.I payed under 250 for mine :)

...what is your budget?

The shifter plugs into a G29 or G920 with a certain port (can't remember what it is off the top of my head)... other wheels may have the same port but that doesn't mean it'll work with the software. You need the Logitech driver for the wheel and shifter anyway.

The Thrustmaster TH8A shifter can be used with any wheel on PC (as it's USB) but it is $150.

Easiest route is just to buy a G29/G920 with the shifter, because you know for a fact it will work. A Thrustmaster T150 Pro is $200, and $350 when you factor in the TH8A shifter. Logitech's the cheaper option ($250-300 including shifter) here as it sounds like you don't already have a wheel.

Best plan is just to save up for a G29/G920 with the proper shifter for it, or the T150 Pro and TH8A.

I don't really have a "budget" I got the money for it, it's just that I didn't want to waste much because I don't know for how long I will use it..

I took a look on the G27, it's way more affordable and it comes with a gear box already, is it worth it?

Yes, G27 is pretty much the same as a G29 / G920. Differences are so minor. If you can find one for a good price, snap it up.

That's the problem, I'm struggling to find one available, amazon doesn't have, there's some known sites in portugal for selling used stuff, and there's some there (there's some g29 with gear box included for like 250 euros), but it's quite hard for me to trust a random dude selling a product to me, I don't know if the product will be all ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up or whatnot.

Well, that is a risk you would need to take but generally, people selling these things aren't out to scam people. They either bought it and don't use it enough or they have upgraded to something better. Usually, if something is faulty, it will be listed as such.

I don't know what sites you are looking at but I thought ebay had some sort of protection for things like that.

Thing with ebay is, a lot of times, big products like this get stuck and you'll have to go get it and pay even more to get it.. I was looking through a famous site in portugal, so I wouldn't have that risk and I could meet with the person that was selling me the product.

Another thing with ebay, I was just checking, and the shipping price is just insanely high, it goes to around 260 all combined, which is around the price of a new one...

Hi you can buy an adapter from Logitech that will allow you to plug your shifter into the PC by USB and use it as a standalone shifter there is also an adapter made by Leo Bodnar that will do the same check them out on google they may be what you need.

I use my old G27 shifter together with a T500rs wheel and pedals.
I use the adapter listed above (Manwith Noname), in order to connect the shifter to USB as a stand alone device.
Works perfect.

Same here but with the T300 wheel, never had any problems.
A tip for better experience, get the brake mod aswell that gives you a brake pedal that feels like one :)
