skip gears in manual transmission
hey, if I use manual transmission, can I skip gears when I need to stop quickly? (for example if I am on highway in 12th gear and I need to slow down fast can I skip directly to 6-7th?)?if this something that doing in real life trucking?

In rl more gears on truck, more gears drivers skip, depending driving conditions. Point is to select perfect gear to each situation, when you get used to it it's lot easier.

but is this realistic? real truckers is doing that?

If real truckers slow down hard, they skip the gears normally

I don't think they can go as low as from 12 to 7th... In real life you cannot overrev engine. However, 2-3 gears at a time will do the trick.

Yup, 12th to 10th or 8th would be normal but 12th to 6th may be a lot.
Depends on your trailer weight and your initial speed.

ok, and 1 more thing, Can you explain to me about the RPM?how to coordinate the gear to the RPM? I have not understand it.thank you.

you are not supposed to redline the rpm, so around 1500-2000rpm you should change gears,
Vellari Aug 13, 2019 @ 7:34am
Yeah, not a race car. You're not supposed to "bend the needle" of the tachometer. Keep it in the green range, up shift on the yellow latest.

Also important if you have Realistic Fuel Comsumption enabled.

Shift gear around:
- 900 - 1000 RPM for light foot
- 1100-1200 RPM for swift driving
- 1300 - 1500 RPM for normal driving
- 1700 - 1900 RPM for agressive driving

The combo engine-gearbox-trailer will alter the truck's behavior and limits, down to 800 RPM and up to 2000 RPM.

1st off NO you cant go from 12th to 6th at speed unless you are willing to put up a hell of a fight getting the stick in the gate and the high risk destroying your engine and killing yourself as 30 tonne of trailer pushes you around and over, going down that far and hard is done in conjunction and in sync with number 3 on the list.
2nd skip changing is normal up and down, its a skill a craft to learn over time.
3rd and most important if you want to stop "quickly or fast" you stand on the brakes simple as that.

But in all that being said, ETS is a game out of the box... do want you want and play how you perceive it should be.

You can go from any gear to any other gear. All that matters is if the gear you are entering is within a tolerable range for the gear ratio with regard to speed and engine RPM.

but it's impossible to look at the rpm gauge the whole trip, this is too much for the brain to :
-press gas/brake
-change gears in 10/12 speed
-be focused on the road to prevent accident
-look at the RPM gauge

how to to this? I tried it and my head /brain started to hurt.

Not easy to say but driving is usually a no-brainer for people who have been driving for a few years.

I don't need to see my gear stick to know what my current gear is, I put my hand on it and I can feel it; I don't need to see my RPM gauge to know what my current RPM is, I can hear my engine and I know if I need to downshift or upshift; I don't need to see my speedometer to know how fast I'm driving, I can feel my gearshift and I can hear my engine

- BUT -

it doesn't mean I don't check the RPM gauge or speedometer from time to time, and as I know where the 1000 RPM or 1500 RPM are, where the 30 MPH or 55 MPH are, I don't actually read them, I just spot the needles.

TL;DR: Your engine is really loud > upshift. Your engine is unresponsive > downshift.
