Game Compatibility with Windows 8
I have been running eurotrucksim2 on Windows 8 for a long time, now all of a sudden refuses to work, even after uninstalling/reinstalling, verifying files, and rebooting steam and my pc numerous times. Does the game support Windows 8 anymore or am I going to have to update now to 8.1 or 10 to even play it?

It still runs fine of Win7, so I don't see any reason for it to have an issue with Win8.

What has changed on your system since the game worked last?

Works fine in Win 10

Nothing has changed at all. I noticed on the game store and on truckersmp (which I know runs different issues) that they only have updates and compatibility for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 but not 8 anymore.

well truckersmp is a mod ... you mean it wont work with the mod ? or the base game ? the game should work just fine unless you have changed something or added in bunk mods .I have it running fine on everything except winXp so its something on your rig . update your drivers for everything from chipset to gpu and make sure even your OS is updated .

Windows 8 is pretty much obsolete now as far as Microsoft is concerned. You should be able to update to Windows 8.1 for Free. Windows 8.1 was a free update for anybody who had Windows 8 installed.. You can get Windows 8.1 from the link below.

ETS2 and other modern games should work on Windows 8 but you should be on at least Windows 8.1 which is a service pack to Windows 8 which fixed a lot of problems with that awful OS. Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 8 back in Jan 2016 which means you stopped receiving any security updates leaving your system very vulnerable to malware threats even with an antivirus software installed.

You can upgrade to 8.1 from the store or install it from the ISO file above.

The whole reason I removed the update for 8.1 on my pc was because my mother's and my close friend's pc upgraded to 8.1 and almost immediately dealt with malicious viruses which ruined their computers and didn't want to fall into that too and they had anti-virus programs. I'm just worried about risking my pc since I can't shell out 800 for a new pc. Just soo annoying that the game stopped supporting Windows 8 but works on all other systems.

You're risking getting infected by viruses and malware more by staying with an unsupported OS and 8.1 is much better than 8. You could try upgrading to Windows 10.

Windows 8.1 is a good OS. I have it installed on my second PC and is still getting updates for the next few years. It's a sort of a hybrid OS. Part Windows 7 and part Windows 10.

I use win 8.1 pro and works perfect in any games, much safer and lighter than win 10.
Automatic updates always messes up in random users, it's silly to use...

Be sure you backup your profiles folder before doing any resetting/reinstall!

I use Windows 8.1 on my main laptop and i refuse to upgrade it to Windows 10. Its like using Windows 7 without aero to me, i also brought back the start menu by installing open shell (AKA Classic Shell).
