Accelerating & braking with gamepad
I have a question about acceleration and braking with using a PS4 controller on the Mac.

It all works great, got R2 set for accelerating and L2 is for braking, only it's not smooth. i.e. If I gently hold down accelerate (R2), you would expect a vehicle would crawl at say 5kph, in-game though with the controller, accelerate just keeps going up all the time, there's no accelerator level for say maintaining 10kph for example with the R2 button (I assume there would be for a wheel and pedals?), so just wondering if it's possible, am I missing something with the controller settings?, deadzones and all that perhaps?

Same applies for braking, it's not gentle, I have to dab L2 a few times otherwise coming up to those border gates I'd be right through the windscreen and over the border in no time! (I'd have to flash my passport mid flight!) :D

Any ideas appreciated!...or perhaps someone could test it on theirs?, see if it does the same. I have the Volvo 750XL, biggest engine and gearbox, can you maintain say 30kph with gently holding down the R2 button without it accelerating?...game doesn't have a smoothness option for these, even my braking severity is set to zero.

Thanks!

Sounds more like a hardware/interface issue, rather than a problem with the game itself. It could even be that the game doesn't recognise proportionate control input with that setup.

As a last resort with the braking, go into your Options>Gameplay menu and scroll down to Truck Settings. Try moving the Braking Intensity to the left to decrease the harshness of the braking effort.

OK cheers Jim, odd thing is ATS seems fine, same machine, even tried copying the same settings.

Check you have "gamepad" selected in the control menu. Also make sure pad is selected from the drop down list at the top.

i reckon your brake pressure setting is way too high, i had that issue even with a wheel where i would just slightly brake but ingame it slams the anchor into the underground.

try lowering it from 100% down to 30 - 40 ish and try again, just keep in mind that you loose brake power with that setting, so no more "oh shoot" emergency brakes

mmm gamepad all set and brake sensitivity slider all way down to the left...still no different. Is the truck too powerful do you think cause the rev counter flies up and the gear changes come thick and fast....using realistic Auto by the way.

I have exactly the same problem, and i dont know what to do

Aha...not just me then, must be a controller thing, it lacks a sensitivity option for the modern trucks....mind you, it seems to work for me in ATS fine, how about you Win4Fun?

I have a fix for Euro Truck Simulator 2. I just figured it out today a moment ago. I wasn't a steam user but created an account and added 5$ to my wallet just to help if you guys still need it. :p

Just go to control panel > hardware and sound > devices and printers > right click on the controller name > game controller settings> properties > under settings tab, click on calibrate > (then calibrate by clicking next and moving the indicated gamepad axis to every direction.. u may enable raw data checkbox to see what input is going in from the conroller)......

Hope it helps. Sorry if it's confusing but it is what it is. :)

I solved it, set your controller up using STEAMS awful Big Picture Mode. It even has presets for the game.
Down side is, you just get a blue screen when you go to launch the game, so just Command Tab to the Finder (Mac) and then select the game icon.
Hello! If someone still has this problem, I had it as well and I fixed it.

In Controls, I had the acceleration axis and brake axis set to R2 and L2, and that was fine. The problem was that, in Keys & Buttons I also had my Throttle and Brake/Reverse buttons set on R2 & L2 as well.

What I did was delete the commands for throttle and brake from the Keys & Buttons are and only leave the settings from the Controls area, and it worked just fine.

Hope this works for you as well, if you're in the same situation.
