What happened to my save files?
I recently entertained 2 updates for ATS and ETS 2 and when I decided to go on both games I found out that the profiles had vanished! Usually game updates do not affect save or profile files and steam usually uploads the saves to the cloud! So what gives!?

There has not ever been cloud saving for ETS2 or ATS...

Aye. I found out about it all being to do with Documents. I checked mine and saw there were no profile files. I know I have not deleted them so it was either the game updates or an act of Satan? I have not figured it out yet LOL.

I'm scared to lose my profiles, so I go to documents/ETS2/ and right click mouse profiles then choose add to profiles.rar (or profiles.7z) then just cut or copy it to safe place.

Yup, copy to either USB thumb drive or upload it to cloud storage such as Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive etc.

On Steam itself you can back up all your game data but i've never done that.

did you figure this out? i lost my profile for ETS and ATS, and its the second time now. thing is, i still have the files in my ETS directory in my documents. but when i open the game it prompts me to start a new game.

Something must be corrupted in your operating system, I would take copy of both profiles (go to documents/ETS2/ and right click mouse profiles then choose add to profiles.rar (or profiles.7z) then just cut or copy it to safe place.) then remove all game data from steam, empty recycle bin, restart computer then install them again.
After install, start games then exit and extract your old profiles to documents/ETS2/

I figured what my problem was. The files in my onedrive were deleted and the files on my laptop were not updated. I restored all the files from onedrive and now everything is back to normal. LOL I am such a dunce! :-D.
