What is the TIR sticker for ?

I have seen a lot of trucks having the TIR sticker on them. I think it's cool and i also have it on my ETS2 trucks. But I don't really know the meaning of it and why do we need to stick it on our trucks besides looking cool.

I have googled it but the wikipedia page has too much detail. Could someone please explain to me in a simple way and easy to understand ?

Basicly it let you deliver cargos internationally with some restrictioms if i read that right and as far as i know

You transport registered sealed cargo (through a third country) without having to pay customs duty on the way.
