8x4 vs. 6x4
I'm trying to decide if it's worth spending a lot of money for an 8x4 chassis when I upgrade to the Heavy Load DLC. I can see where it might be more stable than a 6x4, but since you still have the same number of driven axles is it worth it? Are there other advantages to the 8x4 beyond it looking bad-ass?

In real life you would have to worry about axle loads, but in the game it doesn't matter. I think you can also pull every trailer with a 6×4, so you can save your money.

The 8x4 has a midlift that acts as a second steering axle when it's down. Whether or not that's a good thing is up to you. When it's up it acts just like a 6x4 but with a longer wheelbase and (I think) a smaller fuel tank.
at least the Actros has a stronger, sharper power train with an 8X4... that´s why i managed to beat quite a few Scanias uphill with 40 tons cargo, which i NEVER could with a "normal" Actros chassis... but it also revs higher/ has less top speed and seems to take more fuel...

i think it´s indeed the Actros where you recognize the difference the most... Currently using a Volvo 8X4 and it seems pretty much the same as with an 6X4 or what ever...

You can pull anything with a 4x2 in the game...

Like me now, i'm pulling a 30 tonne trailer with a Renault premium 4x2 (2200NM) and stock allison 4500 and goes better than Actros 6x2/4 Midlift (2500MN) 16 gears :steamfacepalm:

I don't understand how :D

Isn't this because the Allison somehow increases the torque?

Both Allison transmissions in the stock game have a 2.42x torque multiplier to make up for only having six forward gears instead of 12 or 16.

Just go 6x4 til you get the money....it's a neat toy the 8x4 but not necessary for heavy haul.... And if you got paint DLC, not many fit 8x4.... I prefer driving 6x4, gave my 8x4's to some of my drivers :-p

Volvo 750 with 15 speed box (2 forward crawler gears, 1 reverse)

pound for pound
speed for speed.
balance for balance.

the volvo 8x4 chassis is probably the best in the game.
fitted to a
daf.
ren.
merc.
iveco.
volvo.
man.
(and indeed the scania. lol).

you cant lose.
its almost impossible to roll, and when it does roll,, its tries its upmost hardest to self-right again with 9.9 out of 10 sucess rate. it also makes a lot of the unstable trailers easier to handle. not all, but over half of them (the 15 to 25 ton unstable weight catagory. you can tell how stable a trailer is by how fast you can turn a sudden sharp corner or a long fast corner. speed averages are doubled if not trippled). heavy dlc's are a breeze.
with custom hyper-steer settings -
those trucks feel like space-age-dakkar-racers. for real.
nice.

(the 6x4 is ok stable, and the 6x4m or t are ever so slightly faster, but at the expense of terrible balace and "ultra-flip-mode" when trying to take sharp corners).

O.O

f12 when in game to take screenshot... when closing the game, popupwindow with taken shots appears... klick screenshot, klick upload to profile...

to link it here, mouse over your name on top left of this page (DONT KLICK YET) and then klick on "content"... shows your screenshots you uploaded (if not, navigate to screenshots on that page).... klick the desired screenshot.. opens in a small window, which has a link in the left upper corner...copy that link, paste it in a post...

done

important, the link only works if it starts with ..."steamcommunity", not something like "steamuserimages" or what ever (thats a link version you get from klicking the picture AGAIN, when it´s already opened...that wont work here....)
