I think having dirt on trucks might require the same thing as visual damage: special licensing.

There are mods that can make trucks look dirty. Just search for it on google

SCS has attempted to implement this, but it hindered FPS to unacceptable levels.

because they real name manufacturer trucks, the manufacturers do not want damage, black smoke, or dirt of any kind on the trucks in the game, These games are more like a marketing advertisement for the manufactures

This is more of a common misconception, even an urban legend if you will, than actual fact.

Consider this; let's say the truck (or more largely, vehicle-) manufacturers don't wan't their product represented in a "bad way" in games, as is often offered as the excuse for when such things aren't present in a game. Dirty, dented, broken, whatever. Then, go look out your window, look down the street, think about every vehicle you've ever seen (outside of showrooms, for example), how many of them were in absolute pristine condition? I'm not gonna hesitate saying "none of them".

So, if their product is represented in a "bad way" in the REAL WORLD, why would they prevent that in a virtual one? There's absolutely NO logical/financial/whatever reason for this.

(of course, people are also often complete and utter idiots and don't think things through, so it IS possible that's the reason in some or even many cases. BUT since i personally don't know the facts of this particular case, i can't say it is the case here. but i merely offer this as something to consider, not only to you, but perhaps the people in the industry that might be reading this, IF they actually are that stupid [note to "industry"; please don't be that stupid])

A real, logical and understandable reason for not including such things is technology or limitations thereof, so this:

EVE Online added dirt and rust, didn't do didley to the performance of the game. It was, however, highly annoying.

Dirt on trucks is Not Needed.

You can't say a truck is a truck without dirt. That's what cars are for. Trucks are for work and if it ain't got dirt, it ain't workin'.

The couldn't get the overlay shader to work correctly. FPS was not impacted in any way though.

I have a feeling they will revisit it after they drop DX9 in favour of DX11 & Vulkan.

There's a reason many prefabs in ATS have truck washes, they weren't originally there just for looks.
