Answer the question guys.
Are there even parking sensors on trailers in Real life?
Nope, not that i am aware of. Wouldn't even make sense if you think about it. Parking Sensors only monitor the last "few" centimeters. Most people ingame, i guess, have more of a problem getting an idea how much to steer left or right to get the trailer in a straight position at the parking spot, regardless of initial angle. And to help with that, it would need a guidance system.
Anyways, OP - as others have suggested. Make use of camera mode 2. That way you can see your surroundings. The rest is practice, practice, practice. A normal trailer is not that hard to back up. You will get used to it sooner or later. Takes a bit of time, needed that myself to memorize that as the only thing i back up in real life was and is my car. But you will get there.
It helps me LOADS!!!
P.S. Me Parking? IMPROVED Loads.
