What does this warning light mean?
I have just got the DAF XF105 superspace truck and a warning light on the RPM gauge keeps flahing on and off its the letter R in a circle and is coloured green, I don't think it means anything serious as it seems to only come on when I have cruise control turned on and I don't think it's a light for the retarder as I have that option turned off in the settings. I'd just like to know what it means if anyone can help, Thanks.

It's the retarder slowing you down to keep the cruise control speed.

But I have the automatic retarder turned off in the settings. How is this still working?

With the Automatic Retarder setting turned on your retarder would kick in any time you let off the throttle and begin slowing you down based on the level of retarder you have active. With it turned off, this behaviour stops. However, the Cruise Control will use the retarder, if equiped on the transmission, to maintain the set speed and prevent you from going faster, or slow you down to that set speed if you've gone faster. If you want to have absolutely no retarder activation, buy a transmission that does not have a retarder included.

Ahh i see now, maybe i'll keep it with the retarder, it seems helpful. Thanks a lot.

If you turn it on in the settings, the retarder will also activate automatically when you press the brake pedal.

When you manually use the Retarder, it is essentially a way of slowing down without using the brakes, and overdoing it. I also use it to decrease stopping distance in a emergency.
