When you pick a job from a company yard, the trailer get a paintjob linked to that job or to that company, example: you won't deliver a Total tanker to a Shell Oil gas station. A tandem truck without any job can be bland but a paintjob will not be magically applied when you pick a job, and the paintjob will not be magically removed once the job is finished.
SCS already addressed that issue in 2014 with this design http://blog.scssoft.com/2014/09/the-first-news-about-design.html, aka a tandem, both flatbed, both bland but both able to pick up cargobox or tank with a paintjob from two companies.
That design is not implemented yet because it doesn't comply with how the game is currently limited to 1 truck = 1 trailer = 1 job = 1 paintjob, whereas this new design would change it to 1 truck = 2 trailers = 2 jobs = 2 paintjobs.
Okay, so HOW does the game work because in my mind you travel from point A to point B, with or without freight/cargo. Putting in different types of trucks (other than a trailer+tractor combi) doesn't effect the travel from point A to point B. It will still be 1 truck=1 job, the only difference is you can pick a job with or without a trailer.
I quite like the look of a tandem combination (ATS does allow you to pick up a road train) and I thought that it was quite nice to drive around in a (curtain rail) truck without a trailer. My idea will ONLY give a purpose of the travel from point A to point B without having picking up a trailer. In real life you DO see these type of trucks on the road. Think of the applications of this when it is standard in the game.
You get to buy and customize different types of trucks into your fleet for starters.
You may get the possibility to pick up the container only with a flatbed truck. This container can be picked up from places like harbours, container terminals or train yards. This alone creates already a new pick-up point within the game. (I'm thinking big).
The box/curtain rail truck could pick up freight/cargo without or without a trailer. This application will change the look of your truck but not the travel from point A to point B (the 1 truck=1 job philosophy)
The fact that people creating tandem MODS is saying that there is a need of a variety of trucks in the game. Also trucks like that "Scania T", Volvo (VNL) also has trucks looking like that.
This is just a Steam forum, the developers are not here.
Currently you are picking a trailer (or a double trailer combination) when you choose a job. Changing the code in such a way that the game allows you to pick a load without trailer is apparently difficult.
that way the "problem" with company textures i solved as well, since your truck won´t have a fixed box with textures either...
but as mentioned, in any case it would require quite some redesign of the job system... but with the double trailers, especially the american ones, they at least have the basics for the tandemtrailers in the game now... the rest is some programming, new chassis and container models...
chances might have increased a little i guess :)
i won´t hold my breath, but i´d love to have it
Note: it does not support double trailers yet, according to the author, he is slowly updating the program.
great mod.
there were a couple of mods/uploads of a bdf invisible trailer mod, where the cargo trailer that you pick up at the depot's are invisible, thus leaving only the 1 box on your bdf truck.
but alas,, All invisible mods seem to crash the game, the bdf one included.
must be old/outdated mods that worked on previous versions. cant seem to find any working versions of any invisible mods.
but yeah, it be great to have a box/tandem truck in the vanilla game too & with the option to use either 1 or 2 boxes.
sorry, but i think this thread is about OFFICIAL implementation of certain mechanics, not mods
at least that´s what i was talking about...
