No, it's a debugger. Could be a reason to consider it "unsafe", as it does a few things that most consumer applications do not.

That aside, obviously make sure that the version you run is from a source that you trust, which is ideally from the developers themselves.

Is there any reason to get the newest? I've still got 6.7 and it doesn't have any problems and still works on everything I've hit with it.

As long as you're getting the download from the official website, there shouldn't be any problem.

its all the same with basic stability updates etc.

The reason I won't use cheat engines. They technically are code injectors and can easily be caught by your security software as such. The problem comes down to: If you continue assume it is safe, it would be very easy for someone in the future to use malicious code and you will allow it because in the past it's always been safe.

There is really no reason to use a cheat engine for this game when mods can do the same thing, even if it requires a little extra work.

By that logic Moh, we shouldn't continue to assume Steam is safe. You never know when Valve will go malicious. :steammocking:

The day such a thing occurs, it'll be all over Reddit/The internet.

Steam has never triggered my security software like most cheat engines do.

this is just waffle. cheat engine changes RAM values on the fly, or it can inject code. Also its been a safe platform to use for near 10 years.
