Old topic, but I have the same problem. I have sound from everything, including the browser, Windows 10 (Microsoft Store) games etc but no ETS 2, no matter what I try. Any solutions?

I solved this problem with doing a clean Windows 10 install mate. Sorry 😥

Right click speaker icon on taskbar,/playback devices -see your TV/Monitor in list/Right click it and set as default -test it right click. Obviously make sure your headphones are unplugged from the TV!

I have proper sound on my TV from all other applications, including (non-Steam) games, YouTube, everything works properly. But when I start ETS2 it doesn't have sound. I tried changing playback devices, even disabling the laptop's own speakers etc. Nothing works.

The only way to get sound in ETS2 via HDMI is if I set the game not to be full screen and restarting it. However, in windowed mode the game is capped at 30 fps no matter how I set the graphics and I can't play that way. In full screen it runs smoothly but there's no sound. Everything else has.

It may be too demanding on sound -Realtek isn't very powerful- If you have a dedicated graphics card with HDMI output, it will have it's own sound hardware on board and be able to deliver both high graphics and high sound. There's tons of posts on the net with people unable to run games fullscreen with sound, but can with windowed mode. Try reducing sound quality. Try this, right click tv, Properties/Advanced tab at top, change to lowest 16bit 44100Hz

Thank you for the advice but unfortunately it didn't help. The solutions you linked refer to problems where there is absolutely no sound at all via HDMI. I have sound alright, just not in ETS2.

Also, I can't adjust sound quality because I have no Advanced tab under Properties. Only General, Driver, Details and Events.

That signifies that your drivers are not correctly installed

Okay, I FINALLY SOLVED IT. The solution was painfully simple, at least on my Lenovo IdeaPad 530S laptop. I write down the solution so if anyone needs it hopefully will find it. So the solution was basically to set the laptop to broadcast the image only on the external screen not its own. If both screens remain turned on then sound doesn't go out to the TV for some reason.

1. After plugging in the TV via HDMI, turn it on, then start (or restart) the computer.

2. Press [Win + P] to bring up the Projection banner (a menu on the right side of the screen). On that, simply set it to "only secondary screen" or something (my Windows 10 is not set to English) so that the computer's screen will turn off and only the TV will display the image.

3. Then simply start the game...

I didn't need any other settings, it worked immediately. Full screen mode, proper sound, everything. It worked with my laptop, so hopefully it works with other computers as well.

I assumed you would have already made sure that the TV was output 1. The solution to any HDMI sound output/issue is that you must be using one source (monitor) for sound. Unless of course the monitor has no speakers, then there is no conflict.

I found solution for me. Just switch to TV not repeat monitor.
