This is actually a fully complete game, ATS only has 3 states and as such is not a complete game.

Can I play this in America? Or are the servers only in EU?

Well, since it's singleplayer only, yes you can play this in America.

There are no servers - ETS2/ATS are strictly singleplayer only; neither game has a MP feature.

The unofficial MP mod has nothing to do with the official version of the game, it's an external third party mod that was created by regular player who have no connection to SCS in any way, shape or form thus is not a part of the game. The only online aspect the official version of the game has is the WOT contract system, beyond that it's still strictly SP only as there are no servers (on the official version of the game) that anyone can join.

That said, SCS are gradually working towards implementing an official MP feature - although we probably won't see that come to fruition for at least 2+ years from now, I'd wager.

I noticed nobody actually answered the OP's question. Euro truck simulator is set in Europe. With the dlc, you can run a trucking company stretching all the way from France to bordering russia and Scandinavia alll the way down the northern Italy.

American Truck Simulator is set in the US and, as said above, only covers three states in the west currently. Gameplay wise, they are nearly identical aside from different kinds of trucks and somewhat different road rules and labeling.

I wouldn't necessarily called ETS2 'complete', but it certainly has more content than ATS has right now.

SCS still needs to add/rework (in no particular order):

- Add Ireland
- Rework the UK
- Rework the base game areas (Germany, Austria, Switzerland etc.)
- Rework Scandinavia (Add missing parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Faroe Islands isn't even in the game the last two aren't even on the in game map)
- Add Spain/Portugal
- Rework Italy
- Add Estonia
- Add Lithuania
- Add Belarus
- Add Ukraine
- Add Moldova
- Add Slovenia
- Add Croatia
- Add Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Add Montenegro
- Add Kosovo
- Add Macedonia
- Add Romania
- Add Bulgaria
- Add Albania
- Add Greece
- (Maybe add Turkey..?)

Based on the two years it typically takes them for one country DLC that adds up to about 44 years unless you want to consider the ones I group together individual which would add up to 58 years - that's if SCS doesn't somehow manage to cut down the time it takes them to create, test, test, test, announce then release.

So yeah, ETS2 might have more in comparison to ATS but it's no where near fully completed in regards to countries; it's ahead of ATS but they're both in the same boat.

To OP's question, yes ATS is three states, but they're pretty big from what I've seen, and yes ETS has more available right now, but it also has more updating to do.

Essentially ... they're the same game. I would say first and foremost decide if you want big rig American trucks, or cabover European trucks to drive lol! I'm from Europe, so for me it was an easy choice.

Personally I think ets has a slight edge just because different countries are more different than different states (driving on the left and right for one), plus I think ATS still only has two brands of truck right now? Both of those add to variety. You can also add more DLC right away with three expansions available. Ultimately whatever you choose, expansions will be paid DLC. As I understand it ATS will be growing to be the complete USA (Hawaii?) over time, but I think I read that much like Europe, new states will be paid DLC.

I'll just chime in and make the obvious point that you can buy both. I first bought ATS and then picked up ETS 2 on sale about a week later. Of course, you're not going to make the same amount of progress playing both games at the same time, but I find this way you can play either one depending what kind of environment you feel like driving in at the moment. But if you HAVE to buy just one, I'd go with ETS 2. Like other have said, compared to ATS it is the more complete game at the moment, both as a base game and the amount of mods available for it.

Bullfire. ATS has a ton of square mileage coverage something very near ETS2, at MUCH higher detail in world building and specific textures, along with more AI animations and more complex delivery areas and gameplay choices for complexity of parking and other aspects.
So no - "incomplete" in no area at all.

And again, no. There is zero actual concrete confirmation of SCS working on any multiplayer coding. None. Quotes about them "considering" or "investigating" or otherwise thinking about the concept does not start the clock on any kind of actual development.

Higher detail of the... Sand.
Specific textures for... Rocks.
Assuming it has a square mileage coverage similar to ets2 (it doesn't even get close) it doesn't really matters, it could have been 6 times bigger than ets2 but it's all DESERT.
Very few things to look at and gets boring reeeally fast.
People at scs are clearly learning how to do their job better, but their experience doesn't show only for Ats, take a look at the expansion for ets2: going east and Scandinavian locations are much better and detailed than the base game already, France its on the same quality standards of ats speaking of attention for details.
I like the (few) trucks of ats, the overall better ai and... That's it.

when i refer to completion I mean in terms of the goal that is marketed by the name. ETS2, while not having all of Europe, has more of Europe while American Truck Simulator which is supposed to initially span the entire US, or so one may think, but only has 3 states. There may be more milage in ATS, but it fails to capture the diverse climate range of the entire US and only focuses on 3 states that for the most part are more of a desert climate. So again in terms of completion i still feel ETS2 is the more complete package as it has a good chunk of Europe whilst ATS doesn't even broach 25% of the country.
