I'm looking at transmissions for the FH16 and I see 2 of them that I would like some clarifications on.

If i remember right from what someone told me from ATS. The Allison 6 speed is an automatic transmission and is recommended if using the Real Automatic setting (which I am in both games), is this true?

And the last one. 12 + 2 speeds. What....? From what I saw on the graphs (Normal Cargo, Heavy Cargo, etc.) selecting this transmission RAMPED all of the graphs up big time. What is this thing?

it means its a dual transmission (2 x 12 gears each), cause the more gears ya have the better the torque

A dual transmission?

Yes meaning that transmission is like 2 sets of 12 gears in one essentially doubling the pulling power (torque)

the heavy cargo pack DLC will need it, according to the description it has loads up to 123,000 lbs

Would it be better then to use that instead of the Allison 6 speed while my settings are on mouse steering and real automatic?

6 speed will give ya better acceleration but it won't be as good on torque, I would just use the 12 +2

12+2 means 2 crawler gears in addition to 12 "normal" gears.

"Crawler gear
A British term for a very low gear used especially in off-road application"

Correct? So they are 2 super low gears?

Yes.

In game though they can serve an "off label" use, if you're just stuck on a corner/railing, dropping to C1 can usually scrape you through, with 0% damage due to the low speed, where 1st gear will stall out. Guess the recipients don't mind a bit of paint transfer/scratches, guess they just t-cut out anyway :steamhappy:

Crawl gears show on dash as C1 & C2. Contents of one Volvo Tansmission file:

For those of you using H-shifters, if you want to use the 12+2 transmissions you'll need to either set up a third split range or skip a couple of normal gears in a custom range, as this 12+2 config will place the two crawler gears into the first two positions and if you're only set for 2 splits of 6 you won't get into 11th or 12th gears. :)
Mr. Nice Jun 21, 2017 @ 9:10am
Depends on which split/range pattern you go with. It is true though that the top two "simple" range and splitter layouts are a bit rubbish for more then 12 forward keys, although all gears are accessible. Range uses the second toggle so that gear positions 1/2 are either C1/C2, 5/6 or 11/12. Splitter makes it so that there are 3 gears per gear position, using the second toggle, but that leaves the 6th gear position unused, 3 gears per position means that 14 total forward gears only take up 5 positions (with 5 position only having two gears, 11 and 12). I used the standard "splitter" when I had 12 forward gears, so when I got a 12+2 box I did a custom layout so that it behaved like the standard 12 gear splitter normally, but then coud change 1st position from 1/2 to C1/C2 if neccessary with the second toggle.

12+2 transmission is an automatic or manual transmission?
