Truck in drive gear
Hey guys
I just got a wheel and have been playing this game
One thing that bothers me a lot. In real life, with a car, when you put your gear to drive, your car drives slowly forward so you have to put your foot on the break pedal.
But in this game, when I'm using realistic auto transmission or something, the truck wouldn't go forward when the gear is in drive. Are real trucks just don't have these options? or Am I missing something? This has been breaking my immersion

Thank you in advance guys

Truck auto boxes aren't like cars, they are automated manuals not true autos like cars have. IRL when you put a truck in drive it won't start to move forward like a car and if your on a hill it will actually roll backwards. Most auto trucks have a switch on the dash that stops this. When you release the foot brake with the hold switch pressed the brakes continue to hold for a few seconds to stop it rolling back.

The truck I drove (Volvo FH) was auto but did not have the hold switch as such. Instead you would push down on the parking brake but not engage it fully. As soon as you felt the truck try to move forward you let go of the parking brake. I believe it is an automatic fail if you let a truck roll back when starting on a hill (during a UK HGV test that is).

I currently drive a fully automatic Volvo with the Volvo brand I-shift... It doesn't roll until you push the accelerator... It won't roll back on a hill either because it has a 'hill hold' feature. Pretty slick set up

If car crawls forward when engine idle, it have good old fashioned full automatic transmission with torque converter (works as clutch in manual) or it have modern manual transmission where "robot" operates cluch and is badly adjusted or engine idle rpms are too high. When clutch slip, it wears.
In trucks Allison is traditional old style auto transmission with torque converter, Eaton have one too, but not in this game. All others in game automatic transmissions are simply manual transmissions where robot uses clutch.

I've been driving trucks for eight years and they do not behave the way you think, immersion is not broken.
