Why real life truck drivers play ETS2 ?
Just out of curiosity. I have seen many professional truck drivers in real life both on this forum and Youtube playing ETS2. So i have been wondering for a while. My questions are:

1. Why do they play ETS2 afterall they have been driving the real thing everyday ?

2. What do they get from this game or simulator that they don't get from real life trucks ?

Don't get me wrong, I am always glad that they are here. In fact many of them have helped me making my mods. And i certainly have been envious watching them driving real trucks on Youtube while i can only imagine how good it would feel to control and ride those giants on the road, how soft and how heavy the cabin can be.

So please let me know your thoughts, feeling or opinion towards this game/simulator as a real life truck driver.

Trucker here. Excellent question. It started with curiosity as to how well it's simulated, which is "OK -ish". I had some fun building up a company, something I don't do in real life, then I got somewhat bored with the lack of depth and realism so now I barely play.
I would imagine it also comes down to passion. If you have a lot of passion about what you do then you're likely to look for ways to do it in your off time.

I have driven a truck, a small city truck tho and imo the game feels pretty much close to real. What it lacks is some good, massive and raw multiplayer with companies stacked with real players-drivers instead of NPCs. 2-3 european and 2-3 american servers would be enough to host it and avoid all traffic jam and highway density. All in all I enjoy it very much xD

So i can try to handle the truck at 160+ kmh
I am a truck driver, and I ask myself this very same question. Hell, even my wife ask me this very question: "Why do you play this game after all these days you have been on the road? You could have spend the time with your family now that you are at home."

I love to give you some very rosy idea as to why a trucker want to play a truck sim on his time off. But you see, then I realized, this simulation - this thing called ETS2 - is the only setting in which driving actually turn a profit. Seriously. That is why. The only spot in life that make some sense.

For me it is more like a lifestyle:) If im not on the road, I use moste of my free time fixing or washing my truck. after all this love is done, ETS is next on the list! My wife calls my passion for trucks as mental XD

I to have driven truck ( renault magnum with trailer ) and it was brill.Only wished i'd taken my test after spending all the schools holidays travelling with my dad in his truck.

I'm also mad about trucks.
Because this game offers many of the good things of trucking, while leaving out the bad elements, plus, you are free to do whatever you like.
I can build my own company, own and tune my own truck, can run at 160km/h whith a truck on the highway, can sit back, drink a beer and drive, stuff like that.

Plus when im forced to sit for 90 hours inside my real truck in a truckstop, because of easter or some national celebration, i have something to do. After all, i love driving, 9 hours a day just wont be enough for me.
I drove trucks in Australia but am not allowed to drive them here in the UK having passed my test in Oz, my mate bought it and raved about it, so I bought it so I could at least get a feel for driving trucks in the UK, unfortunately it isn't my cup of tea as everything is too short in distance. First run I set off from Sheffield to deliver to Sheffield, took a wrong turn and ended up on the M1, so I thought I will take the next exit which should have been Meadowhall but all of a sudden I am on the M62. Nice game but no simulater.

I understand more clearly now. Mostly, it seems like an extension of real life truck driving where you RL truck drivers get to do things that you normally cannot do in RL such as owning a garage, owning trucks, upgrading trucks and driving at very high speed 160 km/h + that is normally forbidden anywhere. Thanks for all the replies.
