Longsword and heavy bowgun traditionally deal the most raw DPS.
Dual blades, bow, and charge blade deal the highest elemental DPS.
Greatsword and hammer have the highest single hit damage.
Lance and gunlance have the best shields.
Sword and shield and light bowgun are the most versatile.
Hunting horn is the only weapon that can buff teammates.
Insect glaive is the most mobile weapon.
etc
Imo the best weapon pound for pound is the heavy bowgun. It is usually in the running for highest raw DPS, can use multiple elements, can cut tails, can KO heads, never needs to sharpen, and even has a shield that's better than every other shield except the lance's and maybe gunlance's. The only downsides are that long range fighters generally take more damage per hit than melee fighters, and you have to source your own ammo.
bow is objectively one of the best weapon its always .. one of top 3 when it comes to speed running dpending the person who use it .
it requires a fast reflex skill and a good aim
learning the pattern of every monster attacks and dodging it feels rewarding in wilds
HBG and LBG meanwhile just requires a good positioning .. less skill is involved compare to bow but still deal insane amount of damage
& anyone else saying this, this is the correct answer.
I mean...
Not according to speed running, however we need to see the full game and how the balance changes effect this lol
Gunlance will not be that high in the final game. Gunlance does better in the betas and in area quests because of the way shelling damage works and scales. You can't build your own set here or in an arena quest, so you can't max out your damage for most weapons, but shelling only scales from like one skill anyway, so you are getting more of your final damage with shelling than with any other weapon.
LS wins.
Again still the beta, we can't possibly know lol for example daggers there is no effects on them, this could change their ranking a lot. But if your asking about beta only this is the current best laid out list I have seen lol
However changes incoming could switch this list in a slew of ways, I'm not jumping to conclusions. Like glaive is getting its air dance back, and of course all armors can change as we will have skills for all weapons to abuse.
I think if we compare many a game LS and Bow have made a good many lists in top weapons though so it's not a surprise. Ultimately if you look at it from. This perspective and compare them as is, currently I'm beta only it seems these are the top 3 contenders.
Ranged weapon in a melee game will never be bad.
But I love my weeb stick, so I got to stick to my weeb stick.
i love the changes to the longsword in this game. Hopefully they do what Rise did and add some optional secondary movesets to it and all the weapons.
