Objectively Best Weapon
I know there probably isn't an objectively best weapon but if you were really forced to come to one choice on best overall weapon, what would it be?

I've played almost only Lance, and Sword and Shield. And I love them, but, I cant help but feel like, for my skill level, they are like some of the weakest options and in the lances cases, a tad boring when you basically have 2 attacks.

So i'm looking for a new weapon to dedicate myself to, I've avoided overly popular weapons like the long sword...

I'm leaning towards Great Sword, or light or heavy bow gun. Any thoughts?

I think this view only accounts for solo playing and the consistency it provides. Long sword speedruns are impressive to watch but not reflective of how people actually play the game.

As a result, you rarely if ever run across high dps long sword users when playing with randoms. I don't know if that's a skill issue, or if not being able to always have aggro hurts long sword users that much. But regardless multiplayer is a key component of the game, and ranged weapons and their consistent dps despite a monster bouncing around 4 players are the king of that domain.

And I'm not even a ranged weapon user, purely charge blade. Good enough to get S rank with all weapons on all arena quests in Rise and World. But every person who has out-dps'd me in World and Rise were always using a ranged weapon. Every. Single. Time.

I think the reality is, with all jokes aside, it's not possible to answer at the moment.

We don't know the meta of MH wilds yet, and we don't have access to all the potential special moves, or the new weapon balances. Each game has changed the meta and what is objectively best.

Which also then might boil down to skill of the player, my play style isn't suited to long sword In any MH, so it's hard to say objectively it's "the best" when other factors exist. We must wait really.

But also sword and board is the best of all time GOAT
Admitting that LS is objectively the best doesn't mean that it has to be your favorite or that you have to use it. I admit LS is the best in MHWI, but I used SA, Lance, and Dual Blades instead. Why? I just find them more fun to play.

We have access to 1 weapon per and a few weak armors. You simply cannot say LS is best it's simply not possible at this stage. Maybe if you wanna argue best weapon of beta lol

But with bow guns having unlimited ammo types of the basic types, bows having the OP pop wounds skill in Beta with the only know nerf, idk seems hard to think 🤔

Regardless I think it's not possible to call with beta gear and weapons.

Do you even know what I mean by "tools"? Have you ever played fighting games?

I think most of this convo that applies to previous monster hunter games will likely apply to Wilds~ I feel like that's a safe bet. Even with the new mechanics.

While it might boil down to the skill of a player, I think it's more accurate to say skill floor and skill ceilings are huge factors. But I have no clue how hard peak long sword gameplay realistically is, and I'm not gonna invest hundreds of hours to find out~

I just know what I experience in SoS flares, which is that the average Bow or heavy bowgun Japanese Name in Rise and World were drinking steroids. Meanwhile I'm just on mega demondrug.

Now you can set sos to be only the ai hunters that show up.

i always try to solo monster first before friends or summon now
if initial speed runs in beta are any indicator bow is the highest DPS, but this will prob change at launch as changes are made and proper builds are used, in general even in world the fastest weapons and the slowest weapon in speed runs are only about a min apart on average on the upper end so it really comes down to the user, also if your looking for the easiest weapon then the ones with the best speed run builds tend to be the more complex and high skill ceiling ones

Yea, lance is gonna be the number 1 melee weapon cause wilds version is the best version of it ever. And then bow will prob have another exploit they don't fix and then heavy bow gun.

Honestly depends on who your party is because I'll tell you it's pretty hard not to have a load of fun with the hunting horn especially if you're the only one that has why didn't you know you're making everybody on your team smile

Played the series since the PSP days, tried most of the weapons for close to hundred hours each across the different games, and I keep returning to the Greatsword. It's just the most satisfying, as it rewards paying close attention and timing your attacks - it's classic monster hunter.
objectively Dual Blades:
- non stop attack action
- best iFrames
- easy to trigger buff
- deadly aerial attack
- easy to use and to learn
- can cut tails
- easy focus strike on wounds
- easy focus strike for countering (red flashes in focus mode)
Someone compared used beta speed clears and ranked them if you wanna see

TLDR

1st place Bow
2nd place gunlance
3rd place long sword

Longsword is usually the safest bet if you are looking for best weapon in any MH game. Sure its not always at the top but it will usually be second or thirds while other weapons can fluctuate a lot.

Of course at the end of the day the best weapon is the one you are familiar and comfortable with.
