Objectively Best Weapon
I know there probably isn't an objectively best weapon but if you were really forced to come to one choice on best overall weapon, what would it be?

I've played almost only Lance, and Sword and Shield. And I love them, but, I cant help but feel like, for my skill level, they are like some of the weakest options and in the lances cases, a tad boring when you basically have 2 attacks.

So i'm looking for a new weapon to dedicate myself to, I've avoided overly popular weapons like the long sword...

I'm leaning towards Great Sword, or light or heavy bow gun. Any thoughts?

Greatsword and Bowgun but Only for the damage Buff could be Fun.

Im going for bow and longsword on release. Playd charge blade all Time so need some new :)
... why do you think most people use the long sword.... yes maybe because it's a weeby weapon... but because it's really good, and in wilds it's stronger then ever.

anyways aside from longsword, the bowguns, great damage, with less risk.
Dual blades seems to be right up there with the best of em, with perfect dodge allowing your combo to continue and your wound move being your jump move from world/rise.

Long Sword objectively gets the most love and has the most tools at its disposal.
I play roguelikes, soul likes, action games and generally fast paced ones and honestly, lance is still my favorite. Boring weapon by design, block and poke, but when you full guard a strong attack and look like a knight out of a fairy tale? IT's all worth it. The scene where the lance is blocking Gravio's beam in the launch trail is awesome to watch.

HBG is probably has the easiest time compared to the damage it can put out. GS is up there with damage output, but that always has required you to really know a monsters moveset which HBG and a lot of weapons like LS do not particularly require, at least to the level GS does. Spacing and timing need to be on point to really get the most out of it.
Bow seems the ultimate weapon from an OP standpoint. Or the bowguns depending on game to game with the builds possible. The dps for the skill required is always good/new player friendly, more importantly it's the most ideal weapon for multiplayer. It's far safer to play ranged the more players involved in a hunt, you never stop getting top tier DPS when a monster constantly changes his attacks/distance between 4 hunters. Aerial monsters don't hamper your DPS at all. It's just a solid answer all around.

well in like the 1000 of games,. just from my experience, far and away the most popular weapon. And I may hate it cuz its alwys flinching me when im using my lance
I hate hunting horn. Because I suck at it. If you want a weapon that hit's hard, buffs hard and other people like to have around... Then Hunting Horn is your tool. You will be constantly making split second decisions on when to use a song, when to attack the head or what song to line up next... It's a bit too much for me personally lol.

Switch Axe is easy to pick up but hard to master ( especially if you don't have evasion gems ) as the weapon itself offers almost no defensive moves.

I used to like Insect Glaive when it was first introduced in MH 4 ( ? )... but after heavy nerfs in the future games I steered clear from it.
The objectively best weapon is the mighty sword and shield!

Just tried GS for the first time, i think it's very worth to play even if you are against a slow weapon. In wilds, GS is insanely good imo. You can timing guard to block attack completely taking no damage. Timing guard when monster is charging also causing clash. You can press addition button during this process to win the clash. There is also an another new move that is a charged attack, if you time it with monster's attack, you parry the attack and knock back the monster while giving you an additional follow up attack.

It's actually insane tbh.

yeah this is the first game since MH1 I will play GS. Clash and offset are great.

It's not MH if you're not melee'ing a first kill imo, though I do sometimes resort to a shielded weapon if I really can't handle a monster without. If those 3 are your options I'd suggest the Greatsword myself.

Gunlance all the way. If you can learn how to perfect block most attacks it is absolutely busted

Subjectively probably longsword

Sword and Shield is objectively the best weapon in the game.

It can stun like hammers and horns but it can also cut tails
It can apply status and element like dual blades.
It can mount without ledges like an Insect Glaive
It can use any item while unsheathed
It can deal big damage like a great sword
It has built in I-frames like a Longsword.

The only thing it *can't* do is hit enemies from range like the gunner weapons. So if you're thinking "hmm I'm torn on what Blademaster weapon to use." just bring Sword and Shield because it does everything.

Edit: it also can't transform, so if you're a big Transformers fan you really only have SA or CB.

Edit 2: obligatory https://youtu.be/uVqmP25SlGY?si=cIIoJay0RodasjUX
