I played Wild Hearts, and i think its superior to Monster Hunter.

Hey everyone, i want to keep it civil here. I put 400 hours into mh worlds and a 100 or a bit less into mh rise.
I just recently got into this game Wild Hearts which was made by Nioh's creators as a monster hunter clone.
What i found out is that its not a clone at all. I think the gameplay is just superior.

SO... Compared to Monster Hunter, movements are faster with more movement options, combat is faster while preserving the punching attacks and impactful hits. Quality of life overall 1000x better compared to monster hunter... They removed braindead useless features that monster hunter had like bbq which no one uses for stamina(just an example) and overall removed all the chores.

Those were my impressions you might disagree or agree. What i don't understand is that competitiveness of this Monster Hunter genre is dead and i think it is making capcom lazy about it. I played beta for a 10 hours and not to mention performance issues game felt like not improved at all. We only have small features added like you can change your attacks' aim positions and carry 2 weapons with one stored in your ride. We didn't see anything about open world so i don't want to talk about it but still it does still not something worthy of a new game.

I just can't comprehend a game as good as Wild Hearts couldn't penetrate the market and competed with Monster Hunter. I myself learned that it existed yesterday. I'd like some healthy discussion under this post.

If you played Wild Hearts, which one would you prefer; and if you prefer Monster Hunter what makes Monster Hunter superior for you?

didnt like wild hearts, but opinion is valid, it honestly just sounds like u dont like mh lol. a lot of your negatives is what makes mh great.

Wild Hearts is a good game. I never played it because of all those performance issues. Watching stream just show the game is just like Dauntless. Just with so many situational counter measures those wooden structure are for.

Yeah, the karakuri is an interesting system in theory...
I didn't really care about using it in practice.

I tended to just drop down some passive buff structures and fight normally.

For the brief time I did play Wild Hearts I tried my best to get comfortable with the system because it's a key gimmick, and once I got a bit more comfortable building giant walls to stop the boar charge felt just as satisfying to me as nailing a counter in MonHun.

WH is like Toukiden and in fact is pretty much a successor to it. What annoy me about both game is the mechanic where you have to damage a certain parts until the threshold is reach then you can break/cut it off. I hate that. Just let me kill it whatever way I want.

This kind of thing has happened over and over and over again ever since about 2009 or so and it never gets any better for other games. Monster Hunter made it's genre and dominates it. Nothing short of a drought of releases will give enough room for one of these games to flourish at even half of what Monster Hunter accomplishes.

having competition is always good, i just personally didnt like wh lol. but there are good monster hunter like games. also dont call things clones its corny.

I am chapter 4 right now in Wild hearts. While there is a respectable game underneath there are many negatives centred around the reputation of both EA and KT. EA is infamous for games releasing undercooked and KT has been known for bad optimisation and even worse PC ports. All these things happened like a self fulfilling prophecy. EA pulled the plug before anything meaningful in terms of optimisation could be done, but i think KT is too technologically incompetent considering the state of Wo Long and Dynasty Warriors 9. Not to mention the game was on Xbox gamepass with it competing against MH:sunbreak the same year it came out.

I think the combat is more refined in monster hunter compared to wild hearts both on the level of weapons as well as monster combat. Many of times i see a monster pull a move and do a completely different move because animations move sets aren't nuanced in distinction in Wild hearts. There is also more monster variety in monster hunter compared to the same 4-6 monster that get rehashed with improved move sets going across chapters in wild hearts. Monster attacks in wild hearts also seem to suffer from larger then husk hit boxes and very AOE spamming on certain monsters.

Rise Sunbreak has very satisfying combat with many tools to complement a hunt and i will compare it to Wild hearts for this discussion. I only really used 3 weapons: katana, blade and claw and kakuri staff. These weapons are very satisfying to use but the core mechanics seem to be fill the gauge by doing X and do big damage. There are no counters, no iframes outside of rolling/dodging and you are severely relying on your katakuri (structures) to create attack opportunities and to pull off the more high damage move sets. Using these either feels to enhance combat or outright break combat flow because you have to stop what you are doing enter a "build" stance and then start pressing Helldiver sequences hoping you don't get interrupt to build special structures. OF the two so far MH:rise has move organic combat.

I've gotten used to it on KB+M but the control leave alot to be desired and the default bindings suck. You are also locked to 4 basic katakuri when there are 6 total; d-pad limitation on controller? movement is bugged with KB+M as sometimes you will do a weird round about circle to move forward/backwards from facing backwards/forwards. I am fighting the camera at times because of the dynamic camera which you can't turn off. Simply put the input options. camera and HUD options are more matured with capcom's offering.

Performance? Launch was terrible or abysmal based on those brave enough to play the game on release. Compilation and traversal stutter galore. heavy CPU bottlenecking on the systems. You were not having a good time in the game if you were running anything less then a 5800x3D cpu to even allow your GPU push frames. I am barely getting 60 fps on 1440p on a 3800x CPU and 7900 xtx GPU with the gpu only logging 70 to 75% meaning cpu bottleneck issues not resolved. The game world is large but overall the graphics nor the monster interactions or lack of there of justify the performance.

There are still chores btw. You have to process food to maximize food buffs and still have to pick up resources for crafting. Automatic resource collection still requires you to manually pick up the drops. gotta farm monster kills to increase structure building limits in the maps.

I sound negative, but i do think Wild hearts is a good game with rough edges. It's just that you can't expect a new IP to compete at the same level of quality and quantity as monster hunter which has 20+ year legacy at this point. The fact that Wild hearts was a disastrous launch, with it being available on game pass day 1, and EA/KT dropping the game has more or less made it abandon ware.

It wouldn't really matter to me if Wild Hearts was better. I go with the game I know my friends are playing. My friends won't be playing Wild Hearts. So that immediately would put it below in value to MH Wilds on a personal level for me.

And the other thing is the shared day 1 experience. It's going to be fun playing Wilds day 1 with a lot of others. Not being behind in the experience of the game. The online community is the most fun early on as it's just fresh. People aren't as meta driven yet. Getting a bunch of time off so you can no-life the game on launch. Getting ahead of most people too. Seeing who else is hunting end-game monsters early on when the game is only a day or two old. It can be fun sorta like the shared day 1 MMO experience.

I totally agree to this, but what i couldn't understand is that why Wild Hearts couldn't create such hype and draw as many people from the launch. People seemed not interested and not excited for this game even though we do not have any competition in this Monster Hunting type of games.

Maybe i am just a minority that enjoyed the game, monster hunter is just better. But mainly i think it is because Monster Hunter already have community, that is why people don't want to stop playing the title, and also its their comfort zone since its a 20 year old series.

I for one did not like the fortnite esq building thats meta in that game so I do not think its superiour at all

Unfortunately it loses out over world due to the performance issue's and monster variety. If they had fixed performance and had a more diverse lineup Wild Hearts would be vastly superior.

Hopefully Wild Hearts gets a second game.

Only played Wild hearts an hour but you know what's big difference is between these 2 games? Wild Hearts is dead. Lobbies are just empty and when we played we only could find 3 lobbies (2 of the lobbies was our own).

If Wild Hearts was better optimized I'd consider it on par with World. I liked how unique all the weapons are, especially my favorite Umbrella-ella-ella.

Unfortunately, I can get a steady 60+ FPS in World but a choppy 30-45 fps in Wild Hearts =/

wholly agree, It's a great game but it's so off and on with it's frames for my rig, I wish that it got the proper support that it deserved, but EA being EA, couldn't find a way to chop each and every monster off and be it's own DLC. shame really, we could've had a unique IP that was a good Monster Hunter like.
