Game has not been able to connect to server without a VPN since TU1.

I wanna say since launch this game has been iffy for me when connecting to the servers, maybe 50/50, but ever since TU1 it takes 30 seconds of attempting to connect and then failing every time. It's a full minute wasted when the game launches and again when opening the character save screen. Now it only connects when I have my VPN on and I don't really like having it on constantly if I can help it.

What you describe is no game issue.

Try changing your dns to google 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 instead of the default ones from your provider. If you are on some hybrid internet I doubt you can get rid of the vpn.
However sometimes restarting the router also helps, try that first.
