The character has disappeared from PS5
My cousin, with whom I've been playing for quite a few hours, was already RC 104, and today when he tried to connect, it wouldn't let him play online. A 19GB PS5 update appeared. Once he finished, he tried to enter the game and his character had disappeared, taking him directly to the beginning of the story and character creation. He quit the game and restarted the PS5. Out of nowhere, another 21GB update appeared. Again, he waited for the download, and his character still didn't appear. I'm not currently creating any new characters.
I know this isn't PS5 support, but if anyone familiar with that system has had something similar happen and knows how to fix it, it would be very helpful, and we'd be very grateful.

It's hard to say. If they use PS plus cloud saves (which they should if they play online), let them check backup of save in the cloud and compare it with existing one
So I would turn off internet to now update save in the cloud. Then would check local save. If there is no save - try to check cloud and download it manually.

There have been reports on the MH subreddit of save data corruption on PS5.

This game has a really nasty habit of corrupting people's saves. It's happened to a ton of people. Usually what happens though is the save is still there but you can never load into it. It just stays on a black screen.

There wasn't any corruption as such; two huge downloads just appeared out of nowhere, and there's no trace of the previous save game. Only the achievements and other things on PS5 remain. Tomorrow, we'll try some of the fixes we've been given and found online, and we'll also wait for a response from support.

Just curious, how far was he into the game?

Well as I said it's Rc 104, we were focusing on hunting crowns and creating different builds for their weapons.

I am curious about the fixes you found online.

I can already imagine the reply from support.

RC is HR, right? That's an ouch, because that's definitely a lot of hours in. I think the best thing you could do here, might be to use your strongest build and help him blitz through to get him where he was before as fast as possible. If you can't recover the savefile, I think that may be your best option.

Assuming they have set the game to Spanish

Yes, the options we found online haven't solved anything. Tomorrow we'll call Playstation Spain to see if they can resolve the issue, since Capcom isn't responsible for restoring saved data.
The option to level him up quickly with my help is obviously there, but it's the last option we want to use. It's simply absurd for an update to appear out of nowhere and wipe out the saved game without further ado.
But I'm afraid I'll have to rush him through the levels and build.

Well, we've finally obtained a solution from Capcom and PlayStation. No, not really. I was going to make a joke, but the real joke is that Capcom is shrugging off the whole matter while PlayStation is saying that, well, on PS4 you can recover previous cloud saves, but not on PS5. You can pay more for a PS5, pay more every year for the PSN subscription service, and still end up with fewer and fewer resources. That's how the video game industry works in 2025, I guess.

I wanted to close the thread so that those poor, unlucky souls who found their saves deleted on PS5 wouldn’t come here looking for a solution. There isn’t one, at least not from either of the two companies, and no valid solution from what we’ve seen online. The only “solution,” really more of a precaution, is to disable automatic PS5 syncing so that the system doesn’t decide to overwrite your data with zeros and automatically save it, causing you to lose hours and hours of progress.

Greetings and thanks to everyone who tried to help.

I have an idea. Since the game can be played offline, couldn't you just "borrow" someone else's save file, put it on your PS5 (the USB backup still works right ?), then log in an use the free character customization ticket (or buy 1) to change the appearance and name ? That should save you 100 hours lol. Is there any reason it wouldn't work ?
