IE: anything kut-ku size normal is immensely better but anything goa magala size pierce is better
In this game it's more simple. Pierce 1 hits 5 times, damage decreases by 10% every hit after the 2nd. Pierce 2 is hit 6 times (10% every hit after 2nd), pierce 3 is hit 7 times (10% every hit after 2nd). It's not that hard to get 7 ticks head to tail.
Normal 3 - 18.525 * 3 = 46.575 MV
Pierce 3 - some magic math... = 54.482 MV
Honestly it's not a big deal which ammo you use, the difference is gonna be tiny.
It matters more for monster size, as others have mentioned your typical monster sized like a Kut your shots will most likly get 4 or so hits so you have to make sure to try and shoot from nose to tail or wing to wing to make the actual DPS count else normal is a better go to since you don't have to worry about lining your shots up perfectly as much IIRC.
But then again that only TRULY mattered in older monster hunters where you could only have 99 shots per ammo type at a time and had to craft more on the fly.
