Are size and strength correlated?
Hello all!
I was wondering (if it's known) if the strength of a monster has any affect on size. Would a 5 star monster be more likely to have a large crown/would a 1 star monster be more likely to have a mini crown?
Furthermore, are there any ways to tell if a monster has a crown besides examining it with the binoculars?
Thanks :)!

gotcha thank you!
No to both!
Used to be. That is no guarantee now.

In fact I don't believe the stars apply to the monster itself so much as the quest. I mean more stars mean a more high-stakes quest... but that could be in terms of monster defense, monster offense, monster HP, OR in terms of the amount of time you have to complete the Investigation, the rewards you get for it, etc. Not all monsters from 5 star quests will be equal, but they will average out to be stronger and larger. Some will hit hard while being much more vulnerable, others will be tanky but won't do much damage, etc.

And as for knowing whether something is crown size or not without the binoculars.... well, you could hunt it, but I expect you want BETTER options than the binoculars.

Fun fact: you can stick binoculars on a shortcut and still use them even if they're deactivated in the item bar.

I think alpha doshaguma is always big gold crown. Not sure if it just coincidence but I've seen more big (than small) crowns on tempered ones.

Interesting!! I had kinda thought strength was simply related to attack damage. That's good info! Yeah haha ideally I was looking for something better than binoculars but that's okay! I'll just have to hunt and hunt and hunt.

There used to be the idea in World/Iceborne that crowns monsters, especially small crowns, were more aggressive than normal.
Afaik, the idea was never confirmed, and I’ve spent too little time hunting crowns in Wilds to notice any particular difference. And with hunts where the monster spend much of the time on its flank, it’s hard to ascertain it.
AFAIK weaker monsters are smaller, but definitely doesnt affect crowns or else everyone and their mother would be telling eachother to bring felyne weakener for crown farming. i dont think that food skill exists in this game right now but the point stands

there could be something about the game we dont know yet though, as world had higher crown chances for investigations with specific reward boxes. some people were wondering if mini crowns were rarer with higher difficulty / tempered monsters a bit ago. i dont think theres enough info yet to say anything like this with certainty
