But you then have a ton of armor slots that aren't competing for the same spot as Attack Boost, where you can for example have Antivirus running. A lot of the ones you're talking about there are just number fiddlers, things that almost objectively have a best value, while a lot of the armor skills are conditionals that actually impact your playstyle. Critical Boost and Attack Boost might as well just be the same skill for all the impact they have on your actual playstyle, those are not meaningful build variety, and Critical Element isn't really that far behind.
If anything, the limited number of weapon slots means that you're far more likely to actually make a meaningful decision between what you pick as you can't get everything you could want all at once, you might even swap weapons. Bucketing skills into two different categories means we're seeing combinations that simply wouldn't be considered in World.
speed runners use gimmick builds that only works well for short hunts. example the agitator focus. it works best only when most of the hunt has the monster enraged. if the fight takes too long it gets beat by other skills.
the meta for general use tends to give a bit more freedom. gore still takes priority but you can swap the other pieces around to get what you want. the only weapons that really need to stick to the meta are the deco hungry builds like element absorb dragon db. the difference between a good build and average is noticeable.
for everything else just start with zoh head, chest. g ark hands. gor waist and legs and work from there. the gor skill can be annoying so i swap that out when Im just goofing around.
On GS it makes a pretty big difference, as MM doesn't drop when you tackle. You can also easily roll, tackle, swing, and then TCS with MM up. It's a very nice buff to MM uptime, and is also just nice considering the GS's moveset overall does much more damage now and isn't all tied to TCS.

If running with friends i ditch a fire res and dragon res deco to slot in 1 level of wide range and mushroommancer to toss some clutch heals to prevent carts, but above is what i use for solo/SoS play.
Obviously not optimized, and definitely not "meta," haven't ran into anything it can't easily kill tho, i just have a bit longer hunt times is all.

Sorry for the gyazo links. I dont know how to embed images.
Mine is more geared towards damage though, with Offensive Guard slotted in, but still having full wide-range, mushroom, free meal and also speed eating.
always shield, never die. powerguard and hit hard. plus grand retribution feels so good.
If you have to copy someone else does that mean you suck at the game?
I mean it doesn't matter if you suck. That's fine. It's a chill game and I'll carry if I have to, but if you're using someone else's build didn't that person just play half the game for you?
Asking for a friend.
i make my own, i listen and note others' which is also part of the experience, you ♥♥♥♥.
