Flayer is useless. It's only a chance to proc, and at best, it causes wounds to open up MAYBE one hit sooner. It's better to spec into something else.

Palico Rally. Works with npc companions. Just watch them kill things. Best used with an Atk/Def L horn for obvious reasons.

Fairly standard Lance, but not "meta". Thinking about making a jousting build with high stamina upkeep.

My S&S could have better rolls and I'm sure I could swap out some better armor, but this gives everything I want. The Inspiration group bonus is real nice to further buff my attack when I use items. Resentment and Counterstrike is there for when I do get hit I can keep my attack up.
After all buffs are active and with meal prep, I can easily get over 300 raw on this S&S, and I can survive Zoh Shia's hardest hitting moves without worry (minus the ultimate of course). So not only does it help support, it actually hits really hard.
In a sense MH doesn't really have all that much build variety, there's gonna be an optimal DPS set of some variety for every weapon with litle variation between monsters. It's best not to think of them in terms of builds but rather a hidden accessibility menu, allowing you to tweak the game a bit to mitigate or remove mechanics you find challenging for specific fights. Earplugs 3 for example isn't something you'd really consider part of a "build" since the prevailing advice would be to simply git gud and either parry or roll through it, but if you find Zoh Shia's roars difficult that is a way to work around your own specific challenges. If you master the mechanics, your reward is more space to slot in more offensive decorations.
Is it actually? In World/Icebonre it was pretty small since you could pour everything into DPS, and so everyone poured everything into DPS. Wilds doesn't really let you just pour a bunch of Attack jewels into a build and call it a day, at some point you do need to have some skills that aren't going to directly increase your DPS which does leave some amount of room for customization. Not to mention a lot of the generic mainstays have been nerfed.
We could sport more builds in base World and Rise. For example if we want to make a full critical element build in Wilds, we would already be using 2 level-3 slots just to slot in Dragon and Critical Element. Add Razor Sharp and we've already run out of slots to put Guard, Guard Up, Sonorous, Charge, Critical Boost, Critical Eye, Attack Boost, etc.
