Workaround for performance issues
Hello all.

I've managed to find a workaround for my specific performance issues and thought I'd share it in case it helps others.
There seems to be an issue with textures in the render pipeline. Specifically when loading med/high textures during game boot.

To achieve semi-normal frame pacing set the texture resolution to "Low", close the game, load back up, and set it to Med/High after you've fully loaded into the game.

You need to remember to do this every time, so make a habit of setting the textures to "Low" before the end of your gaming session.

Let me know if this works for you!

OS: Windows 11 24H2
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
RAM: 64GB
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3080 10GB
Driver Version: 572.70
Resolution: 2560x1440
DLSS: Balanced

1. Do not under any circumstances use the high-res texture pack. Textures in this game are completely broken due to an issue with directstorage which leads me to--

2. Update the directstorage DLLs to the 1.2.3 versions. Check the MH Wilds article on PCGamingWiki for a link and instructions. This will get rid of the FPS dips when rotating the camera caused by textures streaming onto the CPU for decompression since GPU optimized directstorage is no where to be found at the moment. It doesn't make the high-res texture pack usable but it makes high or lower textures a basically stutter free experience.

3. You absolutely must use REFramework (downloadable on NexusMods). The REFramework build for this game has a critical fix for stuttering caused by the game's anti-tamper code. Without this mod, it is basically impossible to have a stutter free experience even on variable refresh rate monitors.

Do these three things and you will SIGNIFICANTLY improve your experience. It isn't perfect, but it is miles better than stock.

well i think it is placebo, i did as u told and decided to change the textures for the high res ones in the plains i lost 5 frames and got some few stutters while moving the camera, after 2 mins i changed the textures to high and everything was fine again ( it was fine before because i was playing on high ), it's a shame that the textures on any option besides high resolution are ♥♥♥♥, i have a 4070 super and this game runs more pretty on my ps5 and is way more frame stable at camps lobbys, the only thing that sucks on ps5 is the internal res.

It's definitely not placebo. The game is ~30-40FPS with streaming stutters booting from the high res textures, to 70+ stable with the workaround. I don't play with the ultra textures so I can't comment on those and since there's seemingly a texture issue I'll be refraining from trying.

i'm glad it's working for u, for me did no difference when the subject is stable frame on high res tex.

good hunt.

It'd help if you posted your OS, Gfx card and gfx driver versions.

Fair point. Edited post to include this.

Man, I logged into the game at 1440p resolution, but after playing for a few minutes, I started experiencing frame drops. If I switch to 4K, the frames get better. I don't get it... Playing on an RTX 4070 Ti Super.

There's definitely something up with the render pipeline, and it's not the norm shader compilation stutter

It sure is, because they do not understand how it works.

Have you ever written a line of HLSL? No? Then kindly shush. :)

DS might actually be the issue here. I noticed it was bound to CPU earlier which was a bit odd. I'm getting solid FPS by launching with low textures so I'm a little hesitant to change anything, but I'm also curious so I'll give it a shot. Cheers!

Does appear to be DS that was the issue here. Installing the latest version is a better workaround than the post.

the reason i can play well is because i did this whole thing that Miyagi mentioned 3 or 4 days ago.

i do not understand ♥♥♥♥ too, i'm no coder or technical analyst for games, but i know little enough to see that at least for me and for many others this won't do ♥♥♥♥ for performance, the methods mentioned by Miyagi tough really helped on stability at least, theres another one that people called functional that he doens't mentioned i think this one is about swapping some dlss files for stability and changing the game dlss for the fourth version to get a sharper image.

i will let a megathread from reddit linked here, some stuff really help, other are personal choices u can do and another are just placebo or tuning graphics really low to just run the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
