1. I like to create different characters. Lets me learn Male and Female Propotions. In addition, I can create my own version of Waifu or Husbandos, the more i practice. Kinda a huge motivation factor for me, since you can express yourself via such medium.
2. It keeps the Game fresh to me. For example in Dark Souls, whenever I make a Male is either a Rouge or Heavy Knight. As Female i like to go more into the Cleric/Magic Caster Route. In Wilds I will create a Female, because I am almost done with my Main Male Character. Instead of doing nothing, a female character with different approach, will allow me to pass time and also catch up, until new Title Updates arrives.
3. Different Outfit and Fashion Reasons. If the game allows me to have more than 1 Slot, yeah i am gonna use it :D.
For me playing always as either male or female is getting stale. I prefer always a balance and variety. :D
It all happened back in vanilla wow when making my fourth or fifth character. On a whim I decided to create the most beautiful girl character I could in order to get carried in dungeons and hopefully get good trades or even gold donations due to looking like a girl in-game. So I made a female troll shaman with a white ponytail hairdo.
I never got carried or any gold donations, but I did get a couple of compliments on my character's look. I also found that I really enjoyed trying to make my shaman girl look good, this was never anything I cared about when playing my other characters.
Note also the shift in perspective; I went from being the character to controlling a character, and I think this is what people like the OP is not understanding. You don't have to identify with your character, you can be someone who controls many different characters in different shapes and forms.
On top of that: I have bad experiences with male characters in Monster Hunter, moaning like in some X rated movie whenever anything happens at all.
alot of guys that are pro in mehanics go for female chars, its not that deep but they pref female over male, its like you are good and you play for fun.
