Capture or Slay?
I seem to notice that when you Capture a monster, a few of the parts are auto-looted on top of the rewards you get. (About three?). Seems the same thing to me as Carving. Or am I mistaken?

Not if you don't have the mats to begin with. I farmed for Tranq bombs like twice and said never again.

Slay. Every time. Can't be arsed to restock trap and tranq mats every single hunt

Anything I really need for a quest (namely healing) I can usually top up on my way to the target with good routing, the supply pouch has free rations for cooking, and because I don’t give a ♥♥♥♥ about the non-infinite bowgun ammo for the same reason as capturing, restocking ammo/ammo mats is never a concern either on the off chance I do use a bowgun

capturing is faster because you can end the hunt when the monster is at low health instead of at zero health, that's the only difference
There are all sorts of other fiddly factors.
One of the main reasons I Capture is because other random hunters tend to be disgustingly egotistical. If someone gets carted or knocked off a cliff or something and can't get back to the monster at the end in time to carve it, they're screwed. Most other hunters couldn't give a toss less and just keep on slashing away... but nobody else seems to care about that. I Capture so I can guarantee everyone gets their parts.
I do either depending on my mood.

Slay if you have the carver meal effect that allow you to carve up to 3 extra times (it also work on any part you severed) else capture if you aren't looking for a specific loot and want to be done quickly.
There is also a meal effect called Capture Pro that does the same for Cap rewards.
I've got it accepting a meal from the Keepers.

Simply they needs to clearly allow the host of the quest choose to allow tranq capture honestly arkveld should be like a elder dragon not being able to be capture because like i put two mega barrel bombs down along side another person but the two other came as we did this then put trap down like bro yall wasted my mats because you wanted to cap and lets not get started on the rush for wound priorty

Most of the time I just slay now; almost the complete opposite with World. Parts are easy enough to get, and I kind of hate how monsters now run away and disappear into thin air shortly after capture.

I much preferred the narrative that when you captured a monster, you signed it up for a fate worse than death. You keep it alive to study it, THEN take it apart for pieces.

I like my Monster Hunter to be a bit less greenpeace and a bit more Helldivers. I always had this sense that the title of this franchise had dual meaning. I preferred to thing wee are the the ones who put the 'monster' in Monster Hunter. WE (humankind) are monsters that hunt.
