Alpha and beta armors are the exact same
i was looking at the Xu Wu armors for fashion purposes but nothing changes between the alpha and beta versions not even coloring (before it's mentioned i don't have any color overrides enables in the equip customization menu) looking at the preview they at least have different colors, blue vs brown, but in game no such change exists. it's really disappointing to lose the unique models between the versions but that they are the exact same for several sets even in terms of colors, it makes the endgame of dress up that much less enticing.

I'm not sure what your point is. One is for getting skills automatically and the other is for adding gems.

Also you can change the pigment of any armor to whatever you want so what are you trying to say again?
In wilds IIRC they mentioned they are doing armors a bit different, instead of having 2 different sets for both male and females characters they were just going to do unisex armors (although have a more feminine and more masculine look to them), so I think thats why they look the same. could be wrong I only ever make the same character, and could also be misremembering what they said or what I heard
You're right, beta armor sets are bugged and display the same appearance as alpha sets.
You can see the difference in the item "thumbnail" in the forge menu, they're supposed to have a color variation. Most notable on the lala barina sets i believe.

Alpha and Beta, not the male and female sets.
the armor designs we have in-game are some of the best in the franchise imo, don't mind a quality over quantity approach to this particular aspect of the game.

That's just pigment differences, the color mapping doesn't change. If you have layered armor on and changed the pigments, it won't overwrite your pigments on preview. So both will look the same cause they're previewed with the same colors.

They were mostly recolors in MHW as well. Only a few were different. Then once Iceborne got released, each alpha and beta set looked very different. I'd imagine it's gonna be the same here, or at least I hope so.

I would be very sad and disappointed if say the expansion gets released and alpha and beta sets are still just recolors. The MR Fulgur Anjanath beta set is one of my favorites, top 5 actually. Disappointment is guaranteed if it won't be a thing in the expansion. But, it's years from now, so I'll worry about that when we get there.

I stumbled across thia too today. But it looks like this is a bug! If I display them on my Character in the crafting menu at the smithy, alpha and beta sets always look the same for whatever reason. But for my friend who plays a female character (I play a male one) the differences are getting correctly displayed there.

The beta sets have better slots for decorations. That is the only difference I've noticed.
a/b is slightly different colours *but* also their set skill changes. usually something like inspiration (a) or resuscitate (b) iirc.

Yeah, the unisex armors were a cop out.

You get a handful of people frothing over their femboys, but really they just used it as an excuse to make half the armor models, and eliminate the female character rig.

strangely it seems like only some sets suffer from this bug and it's random which when i checked my buddy's stream of the game his lala barina sets were bugged but mine never were.

i was mentioning the bug from above I've been playing since 3U so i know the gameplay differences i was more looking at them for fashion reasons.

it's disappointing to hear that the mapping doesn't change since it limits the possibility for player expression but i usually leave most armors colors alone and when i made the post i hadn't set any colors at all and was wondering about the color difference in reference to not having any set.

yea, i fully agree and am really hoping that title update and DLC armors get model variants for A/B options since the game has been a massive success and i've seen quite a few people mention the lack of model variants in criticism videos.
