Any reason not to play with the NPC hunters?
They can't cart and cost you a quest fail...so why not?

I know the monster's probably get more health and maybe do a little more damage but they seem to serve as really great distractions for the monster so its a net win, ya?

How much damage do they actually do, anyone know? No doubt less than a good player but sometimes you don't want to risk your Tempered Arkveld investigations on random SOS peeps...

They make hunts take longer, is the main reason why I don't use them. They don't do much damage, and every second the monster is chasing one of them down, is a second I'm spending chasing the monster down.
I'm currently playing one of the ranged weapons so that probably adds value to having "distractions" for sure.
If you want to make use of the help, feel free to do so whenever you want. That's what they're for after all.

Olivia does a pretty decent job getting KOs on monsters from what i could tell from the few story quests where she joins you automatically as a +1, so even if AI isn't 'optimal' for times or whatever you'll hear from elitists, the only metric that truly matters is whether you get the quest complete or quest failure screen. As long as you get the first, everything else is irrelevant.
