Big Cities and/or Established Civilization in MH?
So 10 months ago I played Stories 1. I don’t remember much from the game aside from being 9yo and had a 1 eyed baby Rathalos for a pet.

One thing I remember was the city Gildegaron (sp?) that was pretty good sized. It dwarfs the settlements in World/Rise.

Would be nice to see these in the main MH games even if it’s treated like where the Emperor of Nilfgaard is in The Witcher 3 (no connection to the open world map).

Thoughts?

Monster Hunter has had giant cities for years. Minegarde, Dundorma, Loc Lac, Val Habar, Mezeporta. Hell, even Elgado rivals Taznia in size (large defensive port town). Monster Hunter usually goes with smaller villages because it sends newbie hunters to these rural towns to help out. However, it should be noted that in some cases, like Kamura, they have a heavily Guild presence due to it's location. Kamura is also a few hours' walk from Yukumo, so a lot of these smaller towns have network connections with other towns, almost like IRL counties.

I want to walk ingame in one. Even if loading screen and no hunting inside.

It would be neat if we got a Fatalis level Elder Dragon attacking a big city. It wouldn't be a siege, just a big boss map... but could probably serve as that too.

People hated Astera back in World. Why? Because all the facilities were far apart. There's mods to put all the NPC in one single room. After 8 years of Monster Hunter World, people don't even know the lighthouse exist in Astera.

As a hunting hub Astera was terrible.

Just make the smith/canteen/quest/botanical/provisioner/etc within 50 feet of one another. Like Seliana.

You could make this central to one area in a huge ass city and people wouldn’t mind.

Go play Dragon's Dogma 2. Their cities are huge. Plus it has very bad performance issues. Kamura Village is a great place to explore as well. Even better with wirebugs. Like I've said, not much people wants to explore in monster hunter. Killing giant lizard seems to be the only thing on people's mind.
i would love if they brought loc lac back, it was excellent, and being able to 'make' furniture for your house was cool. plus the street that was basically just houses along it, just the different tiers of rooms but it was still neat that you could walk down there and enter them all as different buildings
they could have the gathering hub of this game be off the main map and be a city that hunters from all places gather in, similar to loc lac itself... capcom should hire me

as was said, we've had cities before in the game. IIRC in loc lac the smithy was 5 steps away from the quest board in a small room and doubled as a shortcut back to the entrance area. and there are more facilities than just smithy/farm/quest, its perfectly fine to have the less used ones further away, astera was just badly designed and pretty sure they forgot it was supposed to have a gathering hub at all until last minute lol. you know its badly designed if you require a damn elevator just to reach the canteen, and every single time you return from a quest at that. which requires its own loading screen too for whatever reason...
seliana isnt the best either, i think they got a bit addicted to verticality because theres just no reason for that upper 'bridge' level to exist at all, but still leagues better than astera was

but i dont think we are going to have a very big city area in this game or maybe not even the next due to the issues they had with DD2. large villages maybe but not cities, or if we do they probably won't be populated/active areas

also, astera has a lighthouse? i dont believe you

Loc Lac was the PERFECT hub. It was made by the Frontier team, but had a lot of the MMO side of stuff cut out. You had multiple different songs playing, jhen mohran would rotate in and out every two weeks, but Loc Lac visually would change based on how close Jhen was. You had random weather in the hub for sandstorms. Decoratable bedroom that changed based on your progression. Time of day would be reflective on your Wii's clock. It was a blast.

Astera doesn't have a lighthouse. But who would ever find out it didn't? People don't even know about the path behind the Smithy.

of course people know about it, an npc even goes back there after the story, theres just no reason to go back there because nothing is there and it doesnt lead anywhere. not even any funny animals or easter eggs or whatever, no cool little shrine or secret cave or anything of interest at all, just an empty dead end no different to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dirt road behind my house.
and you think its the player's fault for not wanting to explore?

This is exactly the reason why Seliana doesn't have any dead ends. Or will capcom ever make huge cities to explore. Only 1% of the player base can ever appreciate the effort.

appreciate the effort of what??? you literally had to make up a feature just to make it seem like there WAS something you could explore
as was stated multiple times now, we had cities, they were great and definitely more than 1% of people loved them.
...Hey wait a minute, wasnt a core focus of MHW (and continued in wilds) to make the world more explorable and immersive? how funny

That's what I'm saying, look at Rise and Sunbreak. Kamura Village had places to look for. As well as Elgado. There's small little areas one has to find for themselves.
