Mhw complete pc Freeze
Just had it happen, blamed it on the techncial state, but figured I would ask here too.

Anyone else had this happen to them?
Mhw just completely freezes your pc, you will have frozen screen with the last frame of your gameplay, eventually its needed to Hard restart pc manually.

A shot into the dark:

Are you using Playstation/Dualsense controllers? Even over blueooth?
There are reports that these cause crashes since the last update. Could this be the case on your end too?

I am,
I noticed the comment About it and I will be the next thing I will be testing as well, thank you for the reminder.

That is not a game issue but a hardware issue.
If so how come it exclusively happens only in this game and only after the recent patch?

If it's the dualsense controller, what might be the cause/how does it affect the crashes?
Same case here with the Dualsense issue. If i disconnect dualsense and play with keyboard, the game run normally. Ridiculous

Games locking up your PC can trace back to many things, overheating, storage failure, ram failure, Windows acting up because of ram, storage or other Software complications, ot your psu.
It's hardly ever a game itself, unless there is a known issue like a ram leak.
For me it's more like the PC decides it's done with whatever MH is doing and slowly freezes. What I mean by that is that the fan goes at a regular speed then all of a sudden it slows down like, it decided to stop using the GPU/CPU. If it was heat the internal speaker would screaming at me. As for gridlock,(all of them) it'd give me a special screen. Here it just goes poof and have a coffee break, like it's going into screensaver mode in the middle of what I'm doing.
Given that the game has massive memory leaks and doesn't even use half of the resources available on the system while running... I'd blame it on the program itself.

The devs are the cause, it's further proof they ported the code from console with a script...
Yes, after the recent patch the game will restart my computer after a few hunts. Even when locking my FPS to 45 and lowest graphics. The Benchmark gave me 140+ fps and 25000 score on High settings, and since the release until the recent patch everything was smooth. Now I'll have Capcum nerds telling me it's my own fault and that I should spend days troubleshooting my own hardware.

If its steam mapped/driver based, then its actualy steam related. If its not, then its maybe game related.

Been monitoring this thread since my pc freezes started. Not using a PS controller fixed it for me. I was using specifically a Dualsense edge when it was crashing.

Try going into solo online rather than joining a lobby. for me this heavily reduced the freezing.
Happened to me 4 times. It also crashed Steam.

yep, me too. it was crashing regularly for me within 30 minutes of starting it up. what's crazy is that it would still crash my whole pc when playing remote through my steam deck. i unplugged my dualsense and i haven't had a crash in close to 20 hours of play since i did it, remote or local.

It worked for me! Just plugged my ps5 controller on an usb instead using Bluetooth , played for 3 hours and no freezing so far!
Monster Hunter: Wilds causing a total PC freeze despite being far above minimum specs is still an issue as of 4/5/25, even after Title Update 1.

I did some of the above fixes -- namely not using a PS5 controller whatsoever, as using one through USB instead of Bluetooth still caused a total PC freeze for me in my first hunt.

When using only Mouse and Keyboard (which, for the record, is a huge pain in the ass if you've been playing Monster Hunter with a controller up until this issue), I was able to finish one (1) hunt, but my computer would lock with more and more frequency as time went on, and it felt more like an accident that any of them didn't cause a total PC freeze. My expectation is that eventually, they would have, but I'm not really interested in playing until it happens when the game is basically unplayable because of the "minor" 4-9 second freezes in the first place.

I do not have technical issues playing the game outside of the freezing -> total PC freeze issue, and I do not experience technical issues on games with similar levels of technical spec demands. It is a MH: Wilds specific issue, and one I'd love for them to fix, as I do enjoy the game quite a bit outside of the fact that I can't even get through a hunt anymore without the game forcing me to restart my computer.
