I am a HBG main and I just cant seem to get a good build going this game

What is the "meta" ? Elemental? Pierce?

Any help would be great!

pierce and element only basically, and all the good builds are gated behind HR41 because of capcom's silly decisions

normal/pierce depending on the monster and player count, element for the rare case like Gravios; don’t touch Spread except for novelty.

Pierce shots cure Frenzy almost instantly since that status cares about your MVs, not what you’re actually landing hits on.

So I don't really main HBG, but played all the weapons.

It looks like spread in general just took a ♥♥♥♥, because they revamped bow gun mods, so there is no Less recoil of spread ammo. So in general Pierce is the only way to go.

Elemental ammo has gotten a buff, so now it hits multiple times on hit.

The current meta would be pierce or normal, and either paralysis or blast (if you're NOT going elemental)

Pierce and normal have consistent high DMG, while elemental is situational, however still high damage with the right build.

Here's a video of someone nuking gravios with elemental build. Build is in the comments

IMO while every gun got a buff, this revamp of HBG is not my favorite. I miss having a HEAVY hitter, doing lots of damage, at a time, instead of just peppering everything. That's what the LBG was for. The HBG IMO should be for big heavy hitting damage. Not a machine gun. but that's just me.

I recommend using this link to get a feel for builds, keep in mind this is to maximize DPS, and no comfort. So you can play arround with these builds , and slot in whats right for you https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterMeta/comments/1j54da6/summary_of_generic_endgame_builds_for_all_weapons/?rdt=61295

Hope this helps!

Spread shines on LBG instead this time around due to them getting rapid fire and chaser shots. I know this is an HBG thread, but if you are aching to play spread again then LBG is amazing. For HBG as others have stated it's all pierce/ele. Some people have been experimenting with special ammo but it's much harder to farm blastnut this time around.
I don't like that weapon handling got streamlined across the board. Having different recoil, spread, and reload made different guns feel different. Now they just left the raw numbers in. Yes, some guns can have certain mods and some don't, but ultimately it's only down to ammo selection and mag size now. Other than that they all feel the same to shoot.
